Wayne SW/MO Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Maybe defining "hole" should come first. At one time all the "holes" were holes. You couldn't see the bottom and the Bluff Hole and the Bridge Hole held some really big trout. There was a time when it was great fun to look over the Rock Bridge, right after the whistle blew, and watch the lunkers start to rise out of the depths. Maybe the Blue Pipe Run might be more appropriate. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

laker67 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 . There was a time when it was great fun to look over the Rock Bridge, right after the whistle blew, and watch the lunkers start to rise out of the depths. The good ole days when bssp used to have lunkers. Since about 04, I have gone from catching 30 lunkers a year, to feeling lucky to catch six or eight in a years time at bssp. Most now are holdover from opening and derby day, and a few river browns that move up in july. Occassionally we get some river browns in the winter such as the one I caught 2 weeks ago.
ekl-stl Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I have to echo Laker67... Lunker rainbows are hard to find outside of the normal stocking weekends, opening/derby.. Browns are hit and miss.. some below the dam, in a few spots in Zone 2 and some in Zone 3 depending on the time of the year.. Yes there are some browns in zone 1, but they are spread out a little more.. My friends and I are now limiting our visits to Bennett to the C&R season..
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I remember those days Wayne. I was walking on the bottom of the spillway last year and just for the fun of it I poked my rod down in the water to see how deep it was. Probably 3.5 to 4 feet deep right at the wall and not much more farhter out. I don't think the fishing has been what it once was for the last 4 or 5 years at least. I used to go down all the time now I just do a family tradition trip on the CnR opener. The last few years even that has sucked. Cricket's Apron has a nice ring to it. SIO3
FishinCricket Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Cricket's Apron has a nice ring to it. Indeed... Coulda used that just now while making lunch... But if you're gonna name something down there after me, I want something bigger than an apron.. I suggest we just rename the whole thing "Cricket Creek" and be done with it! cricket.c21.com
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I threw that in for Cricket because I believe that was one of his favorite spots, maybe still is. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
