from a canoe, kayak, or jet boat?

Well, seeing that I don't own a jetboat and have never been invited to fish from one (hint), my opinion would be skewed. ..

Also, on the waters that I fish, you wind up mostly wading, with the kayak or canoe floating/dragging behind you. So, my opinion won't apply here. But, when it comes to solitude, which is my bag. It's a kayak.

But, as Al pointed out, in a canoe you can haul a lot more stuff, ie. rods ready to go, more tackle, a cooler, rain gear, etc. Also, the comfort level greatly increases, ie. leg room, I'm 6'-4". You can also, have another person with you.

I own a 17' 6"bass boat, the only river it's ever been on is the Mighty Mo. So, going off my fishing experience in it, I'd imagine fishing from a jet boat would be the most comfortable and the casts would be the most accurate.

Bottom line. It don't matter, as long as your fishing, which I ain't doing, now.

A Bad day fishing is better than a good day working! Gigging and bowfishing are listed as fishing in the wildlife code...... getting me a pine tar tourch and a dug out canone..... it might work. I own canoes and jet boat.... each are a tool, I would not throw a caddis on my baitcaster.... wouldnt throw a rouge on my fly rod....

In the code book it also list every method allowed to harvest fish. Gigging and bowfishing are not listed under any game fish.

1. Refer to Chief's post above.. (and remember the topic, which is the true reason that gigging ad bowfishing are excluded from this discussion)

2. One of the best ways to catch trout on the Niangua is to drag a floating teeny craw upstream through deep holes... It's a BLAST with a fly rod! (just sayin')

C. I shouldn't have told you about #2

A drift boat obviously!!!!

Not a choice but the best to catch fish out of by far in the right water.

I would say canoe with 2 men next, just too hard in flowing water to fish and float at the same time.

Canoes and kayaks are good to get you from place to place to wade.

Single man pontoons work well to fish from as well, better than canoes or kayaks if you are alone in my opinion because you can steer a little with your feet.

WOW!!!!! all the anti jet feelings on here are funny!!! I'm with Mitch let's hit the river!!!! Hey, I have just about every kind of vessle you can get, we have canoes, kayaks, paddle board, aluminum bass boat and I can't wait to get my jet this spring. Jets have their place thats for sure and I want to be there. I also like to canoe and portgae, wade fish, hell I do alot of wade fishing. I can't wait to run the jet though...when you see the camo Excel go by on the Meramec or the Big next year that's mesmile.gif I know that I like all methods of transportation on the river. The question should be which way can you catch more quality smallies???

I don't judge jets I just want one!!!!

When catching the fish we should have right bait that contains worms or locust. Make sure this type of bait is fascinated the fish you like to catch. Then stick your bait to the hook, then throw your reel. You have reel the fish expertly so that your not loosing.

Please don't think this is rude (I don't speak New Yorkian) but:

There is a time and place for everything, but I prefer the quiet and ability to slide through/under a blowdown that a canoe offers. In the places that I fish, I wouldn't like to see jet boats, and personally don't think they can navigate it (trees). Also, I like being able to buddy up to a rootwad silently and pull out goggle eye all day long.

On the Gasconade and Meramec, go for it. Just try not to run them in shallow water and scar the gravel- that does more harm to future fishing than you could imagine.

On a side note- jet boats are better for covering water and finding bass, but for panfish and catfish, you need to be slow and silent, and you can't beat a canoe for that.
