Well, time to start a new year and a new start to fishing.

I'm going to make a new years resolution to try a new fishing method. Maybe try to use a fly rod,

Maybe get back in a canoe again. With a 14 month old at home, my fishing time is greatly reduced, so I need to

Have a plan. Either way let's all try something new this year.

Mitch, Smallie's on the long rod is a blast. You can throw some bugs at them they may not have seen before. I know you have some great spots to fish by boat or canoe. If you want to wade with the long rod, I might have a few suggestions if you are interested.

For 2011 I want:

1. trout on a dry fly

2. 20+ inch walleye (preferably a school of em)

3. 5+ lb bass on topwater

4. smallie on flyrod (that's not a dink)

5. eat carp for the first time (maybe try a drum as well)

6. enjoy the hell out of 2011 fishing season (I know I will)

Cant think of anything more fun than topwater flyfishing for smallmouth. My 3.5year old & 18 month old are getting a little more independent so I hope to do allot more of that this year. Pays to have some good casting and mending skills if you want to be successful at it though, especially in clear water. This little bugger was my best fly rod smallie of 2009...didnt catch any bigger this year. Give me a holler if you need an on stream lesson.

In 2011 I am going to really concentrate on slowing down.From the time I leave the house until my last cast,I would like to just relax when Im fishing.I also want to put my friends on more fish,It is a ton of fun watching someone land a 5 lb bass for the first time.

Have a good 2011

Spend more time fishing with my wife and family.

Find a nice kayak for my wife.

Explore more open water tactics for suspended smallmouths.

Go back to my roots-Power fishing really slow.

Catch a double digit largemouth, 4lb smallmouth, 25lb catfish.

Focus more on catching multispecies with live bait options.

Learn to catch creek chubs in a trap.

Catch fish all winter.

Stop trying to predict bad weather and how it affects the fishing, b/c somebody's always going to catch em.

Float down my favorite streams again,(injuries kept me out of the canoe this year)

Continue to rehab and workout to prevent further injuries.
