MDC needs to enforce the law (policy, whatever), as it stands. I think any reasonable person would look at this case and determine it's harassment of a protected species, and that it should be prosecuted.

If you guys feel that passionately about it, file a suit against the Department.

I'd gladly throw in a couple bucks. But in all honesty, I'm not so concerned as to mount a whole campaign.

That's sort of my point.

There have been a number of threads on this issue over the course of the year. And yet with all those threads, those posts, and those views, MDC's position on the mountain lion issue hasn't moved an inch. The empirical evidence indicates this course of action isn't working.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.

I don't know the best course of action, I just know this isn't it. Post something about it on their MDC website, or their Facebook page. Create some form letter and have a hundred or a thousand folks put it up there. Write an op/ed piece for your local paper or the Traveler or even the Conservationist- wasn't there a lady on here a while back who worked for some newspaper's outdoor section? Talk to your local conservation commissioners, join the Conservation Federation, start a position, work with your local NGO's like the Sierra Club. And if you feel passionately enough about it then yes, threaten litigation. EPA is sued all the time for failure to enforce its regulations.

I'm not saying I know the best course of action. But continuing to do nothing only ensures one outcome.

This punk kid states that he took a pot shot at the Mountain Lion knowing full well he was not under attack or in any danger of his life. This is where I get extremely angry with the MDC.

I think you're inferring a bit here. The story clearly says "In the meantime, as the mountain lion got closer Brady took a shot..." None of us were there, so none of us can know the reality of the situation. And the writer could very well be making some assumptions like "Brady took a shot...he missed the cat" could very well be that the kid was scared to death and just fired his gun in an attempt to scare the cat.

Glass houses...

I appreciate substanial contribution. But also to be completly honest, it was not my idea to mount a whole campaign. I think it was yours.

But you do raise valid options to get a ball rolling.

I didn't read it as the fine outdoors master made a warning shot towards the ferocious feline to scare it off before he wet himself. Woops that is not quite right. The little tike stated he was "...a little scared." But I am sure that as he was telling of his death defying tales, he suddely had a thought that shot through his mind and reminded him that this story will be on the front page since we called the paper to interview me and it would not be cool to portray fear of the kitty.

In fact I think it may be you that is doing the inferring here. (Actually I am just having a little fun here. But I don't believe for a minute that Jr. wasn't trying to get himself a kitty pelt and county wide momentary fame.)

I would think that a petition demanding that they give true protection would be the first move.

They can't use the livestock protection excuse, the experience in the Western States would override that theory.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I hear that sometimes they span out quite a ways from Springfield, where the most dense populations can be found. They are drawn here by the large cub populations and bountiful supplies of Hawaiian Tropic paired with tanning salons to get them through the sometimes long and harsh Missouri winters.

So true I encountered 3 0f them critters at Shelvin Rock the third Sunday in August as I entered the water these were very friendly critters but there is just somethimg about a long on tooth female with a waistline bigger than mine in a bikini, obviously under the influance of the demon rum, wanting to know if I want to party. I have not been in the James river on a sunday evening since........
