edyer Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I live in Michigan and have fished most of the lakes on the west and NW parts of the lower penninsula. I've been to Table Rock lake about 25 times since 1980. Things have changed a lot since we have been coming down. BPS was just a little mail order store the first year we were here. We usually stay in the Aunts/Little Aunts Creek area. You used to be able to catch all the bass you wanted by just throwing a wart or a spinner bait along the shoreline, but now there are so many docks in the way, we usually run to more remote spots. Seems like we used to catch bigger spots, but now we catch more smallmouths. My biggest bass was an 8 pound two ouncer caught after dark on a jig and pig(real uncle josh) on the bank accross from the Aunts Creek Park boat launch. That week it was so cold we only could fish about an hour after dark because our guides would freeze up, but I caught the 8lb 2 oz, my brother in law caught a 7 lb 15 0z, and my other buddy caught a 7 lb 8 oz. We rarely catch any over five pounds any more, but we know the big ones are coming back. We don't fish at night as much either. We always have a great time.
Members osuangler Posted April 24, 2009 Members Posted April 24, 2009 I haven't had the chance to vote. It was still pretty neat to see the percentages. I live in Fort Gibson, OK and have fished Roaring River all of my life. I have never been to bennet springs or taney. How do they compare? They're both trout parks, stocked daily, with fly water, bait water, and catch and release only water. Really the only difference is that Bennett Spring is more of a River, while Roaring river is more of a small creek.

ozark trout fisher Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 How is the quality of fish? I fished Roaring River a couple of weekends ago and caught some of the nicest trout I have ever caught. I'd expect similar sized fish, both of them get some big old brood stock every once in a while, alongside the regular stockies. The c&r area at Bennett is you're best bet in that park to get a lunker, as well as a bunch of rainbows, all though you'll find plenty of trout pretty much everywhere at Bennett. The Niangua below Bennett get stocked with browns every year, and I would suppose some of them get pretty large, and maybe a few move into the lower end of the spring branch.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 2, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted June 2, 2009 Just kicking this to the top of the "View New Posts" list. With almost 4600 members, I'd think we could get more than 294 picks here. Thanks.
Members Deer Slayer Posted June 23, 2009 Members Posted June 23, 2009 While I am fortunate to be a land owner on the trophy brown trout section of the meramec, my heart belongs to the slow muddy, warm water of the Dry Fork River. I spend all day wading with a backpack of warm beer, an ultra light spinning rod and a couple of rapellas. I have deer water right next to me, turkeys fly overhead and I'll never see another soul all day. What I catch doesn't really matter, but I usually do alright and generally bring home a couple bass for a meal. I then finsh the day by standing in the ice cold (by comparison) meramec in front of my cabin and rinse the days heat and grime away while twitching a 5" Gold & Black repella in front of the many brown trout that don't come out of hiding until the sun goes down. -Steve

Been there quite a few times and never seen nor heard of it. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.

et84 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Gotta say, mine's the James. Grew up fishing it with my dad, still fish it regularly. "Sometimes it seems like such a hard life, but there's good times around the bend. The rollercoaster's gotta roll to the bottom if ya wanna climb to the top again."
