motoman Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I'm with James. Those are great colors. But, I also like French Pearl and Elegy Bone.
Champ188 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Hey Quillback, I went over to Lake Ann about 2 hours ago hoping to catch a few on a jerk bait. Wrong. Darn lake is froze over.
Quillback Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Yeah Champ, that Lake Ann has been frozen over since the freeze we had a couple of weeks ago, it froze over with really thick ice. I drove over to Avalon yesterday and it had quite a bit of ice on it also from this last freeze, but it's thin and should be gone soon. Brittany fished real well for me one day last week before this latest freeze, I didn't check it out yet but it may have iced over also. Come on springtime!
Quillback Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I just noticed these today from Bomber, they look good and they are cheap compared to some of the other stickbaits out there. Anyone tried them yet? http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Bomber_Suspending_Pro_Long_A_/descpage-BSPLA.html
Ham Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 First of all, Ham is just full of crap. And I can easily say that since the two of us fish together a lot. I can honestly say that I just bought my first, a TNG color, and while it has caught several fish its durability seems to be lacking. After only a few fish I noticed the bait sinking like a rock when I stopped my retrieve and upon closer inspection I found a nice crack around the enire tail section and the bait was full of water. I hate to be cheap but I like any hard bait I purchase to provide a good amount of fishing time without a breakdown in its structure. I am sure others will have comments regarding their durability but if any of you have had similar expereinces I'd like to know. I was going to purchase several more this year but I've put that idea on hold pending more research. And I do catch fish pretty well on McSticks, rapalas and other brands of jerk baits that cost far less. I have attempted to repair the crack using plastic epoxy. I'll find out soon enough if the repair holds and whether or not I've killed the bait's action. Wait a minute, what did I say that was crap? You might not agree with my decision to have lots of color options, but I do carry a fair number of colors and I would be hard pressed to pick just one to recommend to someone. Cajun Angler and I do fish together often and I know that he carries a lot of colors of jerk baits as well, but only has that one Megabass to chose from and WHEN it is getting bit, he sticks with it. I suggested the TNG color to him AND told him I would buy it from him if he wasn't happy with it. He only wanted stinking Megabass because I was catching fish behind him on them. Call me crazy if you want to do so, but saying I full of crap seems to imply that I'm being less than 100% honest. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Cajunangler Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I'm not a megabass expert but looking at the color options at Tackle Warehouse it is almost identical to M Shad. ie silver sides, darker back and a dash of purple on the rear. It appears they have several different options with only minute differences in each. If bass are that selective I guess I am just out of luck. I would have to imagine it is the lures action more so than a specific color combination. At least that is my 2 cents worth.
Stump bumper Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Not meaning to get off topic again but the door has been open to other lures and I feel this is a close match to the mega bass jerk bait. Has anyone tried the 4 1/2 inch Agile flasher from lureparts.com. It is not up on thier web site yet but is in the 2011 catolog that is downloadable in PDF on thier web site. They come with out split rings and hooks for $4.99 unpainted up to $5.99 painted. I was stuck on Lucky Craft and McSticks until another member of this site intorduced me to jane netcraft's Springer 100s and 78s. Springer 100s Now that I can put together a jerk bait for $5, I don't spend $12 or $15 for Jerkbaits and sure don't plan on spending $25 but I might go up a buck or two to try out these new Angile Flashers if they do compare to the Mega Bass.
Ham Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 TNG is close to Ito Wagasaki. There are several that have a greenish back, silver reflective sides, and a purple overtone on the tail end. All the vendors have a highly variable color selection. Color selections come and go as well as change over time ie Pro Blue changed, but has been re-released in it's original form. Tackle Warehouse is a good online shop, but it is really nice to look at them in hand and make your choices. You can see a bunch of freaky colors at Ichiban Tackle also, but I am unwilling to do business with an overseas vendor. I'm disappointed that Cajunangler didn't clarify his earlier comment about me being full of crap. If I bother to comment, I'm going to be completely truthful. If I want to keep something quiet, I don't comment. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
gabe Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Check out the Basswishes website. They have plenty of colors in stock.
