snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Took me an hour and a half to shovel (scrape) ~4-5 inches of ice pellets of my driveway. Under that is a solid 1/4 inch layer of ice layed down last night. It's coming down over an inch an hour. I hope we don't get 10 - 15 inches of this stuff. I'm not panicking, I just have cabin fever. Fly boxes are filling up nicely though. I'll head out in an hour or so and stay on top of it. FYI, 3 car garage and driveway is cool in the summer. Not so much with 10 to 15 inches on the way. I had around 10 inches the last go round. Helps an old man stay in shape. High temp the next 10 only 38 for two days. I still had it piled up 3 feet deep around my driveway from the last blast. Trout Commander Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 And for the record, I am the only source of income for my three person family, who receives no "assistance", at $12.00/hr, which is considerably less than two folks working at minimum wage. The only debt we have is a manageable payment on said AWD Commander. I suspect those that aren't prepared with a four wheel drive while living in an area where it is sometimes required either 1)don't want one or 2) their budget looks very different than that of my family. (Yes NOW I am thumping my chest, about my family living within our means and making smart financial sacrifices. If you want to fault me for that, be my guest.) But that is neither here nor there. TC If more folks would have the wise common sense that you and your family have there would be more 12 buck an hour jobs to be had. Sorry if I overreacted to your comments.one of the ladies that worked for me last year has not been able to find a job form more than 8 bucks and hour and her husb and who has a degree has been laid off from 3 jobs since last september. They are both hard worker and trying hard. That being said Congrats on your success and fine family. I worked for 39 years and retired in 1999 and we had the same philosophy. I was fortunate enough to never have to ask for help from anyone. Keep us the good work pal we need more responsiblle families like yours. BTW with already 7 + inches of snow in Columbia over 3/4 inches of ice under it in some places .... it will be longer than a few days before this snow in gone in Missouri. The tempertatures for the next two days alone are predicting -4 degrees ane 0 degrees. I doubt if much snow will melt with those temps. Columbia is filled with hills and narrow streets and several college campuses that are all closed. Thank you for the kind words. Sometimes its difficult and it would be nice to have a huge tv and a nice cable package and newer lower mileage vehicles etc etc, but if we can keep our belts tightened for about 5 more years my wife will be done with dental school and we will be able to relax a little. I myself have been fortunate finding jobs the couple of time I have been without and my wife does not work by choice, so she can complete school quicker. I have to say we wouldn't be in near the economic situation we are currently either if more folks would live inside their means and not as many good workers such as your friends would be looking for jobs. But again thats neither here nor there. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack

From deep inside the bunker, SIO3 sorry to hear about that, I hope yall dont lose power. On the up side, if its ice pellets falling down that means it is likely not sticking to power lines. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Thom Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 People please. You're all acting like you never saw any snow and ice in your lives before. At least it will all melt in a couple of days and every thing will be back to normal. Get over it. Read it again and get over it. It won't be all over here for at least a week if that soon. Get over it. Thom Harvengt

snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Thanks Gmuddy. I hope we don't lose power either. I just knocked out another round. It only took a half hour this time. Neighbors snow blower threw a belt. Where is Leonard anyway? If he doesn't get here soon I'll be 3 sheets if you know what I mean. Most people went to the grocery, I went to the packy!!! Pete
