Fishing Etiquette

My wife and I were fishing on Taney one time just below the Rocking Chair on the North side. We were catching fish, but just not hammering them when this fella comes fishing through on the South side. Now, he in no way crowded us or invaded what we felt was our personal space, but he was absolutely slaying the fish on every single cast. As he came through I noticed he was fishing an indy rig just like we were. He paused in front of us and picked up a couple of fish then hollered over that he was catching them on a small olive jig. We immeadiately switched to micro jigs and started killing them! Thanks whoever you were. You made a great day into a spectacular day.

My experience at Taney has been a mixed bag, I’ve seen all the crowding and rude behavior but I’ve also had windows of peace and solitude and of course wonderful fishing. Whether it was almost being thrown out of my boat by a wake or having morons wade into the fish I’m working every instance of rudeness happened on lower water. It’s a similar situation on the main stem of our smallmouth streams during the summer, recreational power boating has created an environment that I cannot fish in. Low water at Taney creates a situation that I have no desire to be a part of. This would be devastating to my way of life if it were not for all the other angling opportunities in the Ozarks. I find that my trips are planned around avoiding people as much as catching fish.

You should see the boat traffic this morning... If you sat and watched the webcam, you'd be amazed by the boats heading upstream. All our boats are out except 3 pontoons - that's 12 jons, 4 bass boat and 1 pontoon. It's gotta be pretty crowded from Short Creek up. I may go out and mosey around but have to take a pontoon.

I bet the area below the dam is crawling with waders. I may go up there instead and take my spin cast rig and jigs. See if I get any ugly stares.

You gonna throw a sinking line or sinking leader this time. Purple and pink, or grey and purple. Red eyes or yellow. Front of the boat or back. Beaver or Swan....or James. Should we wait untill the storm is over, or go ahead and just fish through the lightning. Why is everybody leaving? You shure there is a road under all that water? I wonder if my tires a gonna be flat when I get back to my truck....who cares, we're fishing right now! It's just a carp!
