Bird Watcher Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 The bottom line is, the backlash is a result of greed and jealousy. Greed and Jealousy want the streams, lakes, and fish all to themselves. Paranoia sets in and then you have a mess. Post away. It's on a map. Everyone needs to realize that by the year 2011, your secret honey hole is someone else's forgotten spot. Anglers come and go, but the streams are the same. They were here before you and they will be here after you and more than likely 100 years from now, a certain segment of the anglers will be giving grief to the other segment of the anglers about naming spots. Greed and Jealousy are inherent human personality traits.
eric1978 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Crane's been written up in national publications I believe. It's a pretty famous place, what with the McCloud rainbows there. And it runs through a town. Shouldn't be any reports? I don't think you're going to get your wish. Thanks, Mic for posting reports. Post what you want to post and don't worry about the negative comments. There will always be more of those who appreciate it. I say post the pic. Post the whole report, I would love to read it. The only parts I wouldn't mention is the exact or really even general locations. Like Phil said, Crane is no secret. But all I would say is I was fishing at Crane and leave it at that. I personally think when it comes to Crane, the locals, those in a 30 minute radius that gets worse as you get closer, are the hardest on the stream. And there isn't any stopping them. But also like eric said, there are some lurkers out there, so beware. Yeah, well, I had never even heard of Crane Creek until I started reading this forum, and since then I have fished there and I guarantee I caused the death of at least one of those fish just by the law of averages...so, one more guy who found out about a tiny little gem of a fragile creek, and one more fish dead out of it. Just sayin.
Trout Commander Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I've been stewing for a couple of hours now...so here is my soapbox. I found this forum a few months back. I was pretty excited because I'm a project manager on seven figure projects with a lot of stress. This is where I can get a way for couple of minutes a few times a day when I need a break. I thought this forum was supposed to be where one reports on fishing trips. Apparently, only if you fish bigger waters or on some special list. First, I was given a load for calling out a specific hole at BSC. Then, the load was for posting to many reports. Well here you go...not one word about how much fun I had, how my kid is learning to love the outdoors, or how much money I spent in the great state of MO. I served my country for over 20 years, through four wars and a year away from my family in Korea. I've earned my right to free speech discussing fishing trips on a fishing forum. So I can, now I just don't want to...'just saying. FWIW I will post all of my reports on these little streams, but I will not say where on them, or possibly not even give the name but post enough telling pictures so anyone who knows anything about it would recognize it easily enough. I am not telling you what to do at all, and don't disagree with your post one iota, and I DO hope you continue to post (as I enjoy them) at the level of description of your choice. p.s. I am dying to fish BSC so if you ever need a fishing partner shoot me a pm. It seems difficult to get away sometimes but I would be more than happy to fish with you anytime I could swing it. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Justin Spencer Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I'm putting together a trip to BSC for next month, so far I have about 30 guys going, we'll be taking a school bus (just kidding!) Keep up the postings mic, I seriously doubt that anything we report on the forum in regards to small streams makes a huge difference in where people are going to go fish on a regular basis. Unless you live near one of these small streams I doubt you will fish there more than once and that will probably be just to say you have fished yet another stream. I enjoy hearing about the small streams, and if you are the type that is going to harm the resource I doubt you will waste your time catching a bunch of YOY trout on a tiny creek. If you report catching a bunch of 15-20 inch fish on one of these streams that might be a different story! mic Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 You know after 15 years as a project manager you would think I would learn not to use electronic media when you are upset. Specially, when you are stuck in the house with a sinus infection. So first, thanks for all the positive posts...I guess there was a silent majority I didn't know about. Second, apologies for the soapbox. However, I've learned there is a fisherman's etiquette here that I just didn't know about...I promise from here on out not to talk about specific holes on the blue ribbon areas. Trout parks are OK right? Can't wait to fish the Blue Pipe Hole. And no, I'm not proving a point. Those riffles were one of my favorite spots. Trout Commander..Sounds great I'll send you a PM. Is that little man in the pic old enough to go? Mine is eight. Flyfinger...I was at Osan at the exact same time 98-99. I was with the 303 Intel Squadron...go Scivy Nine.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Excuse me!!! It's Pete's Blue Pipe Hole. Pete
Flysmallie Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Yeah, well, I had never even heard of Crane Creek until I started reading this forum, and since then I have fished there and I guarantee I caused the death of at least one of those fish just by the law of averages...so, one more guy who found out about a tiny little gem of a fragile creek, and one more fish dead out of it. Just sayin. But in all fairness Eric, you weren't exactly a trout fisherman before you joined OAF. Not picking on you buddy but unless that's the species you pursue you pay little attention to the areas where those fish are. Since you have joined you have picked up a fly rod and have enjoyed places like Crane. But Phil is right, Crane is talked about a lot on many different forums and in many different publications. It's about as big a secret as Table Rock Lake. Mic, don't let the stupidity get to you like it has to me and so many others. Please post your reports and the places you go, but like was said before you don't have to give specific locations. Ozark Anglers has changed over the years as most forums do, but we can keep this a friendly place. People keep saying that all the bickering has been going on because of winter, but if you are honest with yourself you will all realize that it has been going on a lot longer than that. I will be the first to admit that I made several mistakes and caused some problems of my own, but I also realize how much this forum has meant to me. It has given me the opportunity to meet and fish with some great fisherman when I was just getting started that really pushed me to where I am now. But do to the atmosphere you don't see them around so much anymore. We used to get some great info from a lot of the lake guides that I know many have benefited from. We also used to get a lot of reports from guys like Leonard, Jeremy Hunt, Michael Kyle and Duane Doty. What happened to all these guys? Yeah Duane has been posting again lately, but he has mostly been begging for some to calm down and talk about fishing. Besides he will be off to Alaska again soon and we won't here from him again until the fall. (unless a bear gets him) We have got to stop being so critical of everyone else. Just because you don't like the way somebody does something does not mean that you need to be an butt about it. Everyone has their own opinion about how things need to be done, if you feel you have a better way then post it and tell everybody why it works better for you. But don't start an argument over who is right. Take a look at the cell phone on the water thread, it's a perfect example. Guys were actually arguing over whether taking or not taking it was the right thing to do. Who cares, do what makes you happy and quit worrying about everyone else. As I have said before I owe a lot to what Phil, Dano and OAF have done for me. It has given me the opportunity to fish with some of the best fishermen in the world and learn many new techniques. It has also given me the opportunity to meet a whole new group of fishing buddies. And even though we have only known each other for a short period of time they feel more like brothers to me than just fishing buddies. You know who you guys are and I'll love ya till the day I die. Trout Commander Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Trout Commander..Sounds great I'll send you a PM. Is that little man in the pic old enough to go? Mine is eight. Not quite yet, he is 4. His interest is there, he asks or talks about fly fishing on a nearly daily basis. Now that the days are getting warmer and longer I will have him out in the yard with a fly rod in his hand in no time. How is your boy with a fly rod? Chris Barclay Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 hey Mic, I haven't read through all the other posts (I will later) so I don't know if I'm reiterating what others have already said but I've appreciated your posts and learned some stuff from you. I'd like it if you kept em going. Chris St. Louis, MOcbarclayflyrods.combreambum.blogspot.com

She does alright in the yard, but still is trying to figure out what to do on the water. She is still trying to learn what to do with the slack line that happens as fly and line come back at her. I'm thinking about getting her in a class this spring. Like most kids she takes direction from others better then from me. Plus I'm just learning myself. I will tell you this...its worth the wait.
