I've been on the water at least a few hours each day since Sunday, mostly fishing between Baxter to Aunts Creek to Hideaway Harbor. Monday's snow and sleet made for a miserable day on the water. I've been focusing on all the normal suggested locations / techniques w/o much luck. I've only had one keeper LM, rest have been 13-14" spots...10 fish total for trip so far. Only place I've been able to consistently find fish has been tight, tight to cedar trees. Even when I find em, there's not an aggressive bone in their body. They'll come check out a dropshot for a bit, but it's rare that one will take it.

One wiggle wart fish in the wind, but mostly it's just been a fish here, fish there...no real pattern. Was hoping for the wind to blow today but it was flat calm all morning today. Thinking of making the run on up the James or Kings river to the dirty (and warmer) water. Water temps in my areas has been 46-48.5 degs...closer to 50 up the James a bit.

I'm open to any suggestions :)

Rangerman posted about a zone on the Kings with warmer water that held many bass and some whites and walleyes. Sounds to me like you need to find the same in that river or the James.

The warm weather today and tomorrow could change things quickly.

fished twice last week caught a 7.03, a 5.26 a 4.76 and a 4.45 caught 11 fish one day 9 the second. caught them on a wiggle wart shallow. this has been a really good spring for me so far. you absolutely must find 48 degree water or better. wore my arm out in 45-46 degree water without a hit of any kind. these fish were digitally weighted as you can tell by weights..not guessed. they are still swimming in the rock! i never keep bass. good luck! when i say shallow i mean shallow 8 feet or less.

couple of other things i should have said. these fish are in areas that have rocks and timber both. put you're boat next to the bank and fish ahead of you're boat. move the bait medium retrieve. you will get hung but thats were the fish are...or were.

Tnx for the input folks. I think the cold weather on Sunday, Monday moved those fish out a bit deeper. Add to that the flat calm we had on Tues and Weds till 2pm...tough go. The water temp seems to have finally come back a bit. Hoping for a little wind today :)

tnx

Fishing river arms or creek arms in stained water or the back of coves?

Wind is gonna make a big difference for you, Edwin. Hang in there, buddy. I feel your pain. I've thrown a pile of money at derbies the past two weekends and come away "checkless." Don't let Babler woo you with his siren song about that dastardly float-n-fly. Resist, my brother. Get thee behind me, evil one. :angry1::lol:

Seriously, they're gonna turn on bigtime any day now. I had a good bite going up the Kings week before last in 50-53 degree water. Very few big fish and hard to even put together a sack of keepers but by gosh it was fun. They slowed down a lot last week when the water temp dropped a bit, but I'd bet they're getting back on their feed by now. Viola marina to near the Hwy 86 bridge. Shallow crank baits (Bandit 200s or even 100s) around big rocks or wood. Spinner baits were starting to work, too. Go up there and enjoy. Sounds like you need some bites, big or small.

The back end of the Kings in March is like the first half of the old "...or a honda" line. You may not want to tell people about it, but it sure does make you feel good ;) .

I know, dtrs5kprs. LOL. But i'm done with derbies for awhile on TR. Headed for LOZ as time allows the next 2-3 weeks. Looking forward to a good dirty-water spring blade bite up there. B)
