DChance Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 If you've paid any attention at all, this happens every year. It happens after a lot runoff from spring rains and can be caused my many things. I love how everyone thinks that LOZ is sooo polluted. Last year, Pomme de Terre also had beaches close due to E-coli, from flooding and I think Truman the same, but not positive on Truman. Is it the cleanest? no, but I don't beleive it is nowhere near as bad as many think it is. Many of those pipes seen are runoff and gutter lines that run into the water.

Maybe so, but there's poop in the water. POOP! See my avatar over there? No POOP! John

I'll tell this story for the millionth time... When I was at Mizzou, a friend of mine did a field trip to Lake O for some class, can't remember which. Anyway, they were pouring some kind of inert flourescent green liquid into the toilets of the houses on the lake and seeing if and how quickly it would leach into the water through faulty septic systems. Minutes...the lake was flourescent green in minutes. LOZ is sooo polluted. Yeah.
OzarkFishman Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Man, I thought I was going to the lake for a bunch of tasty catfish ... now you are telling me I am eating poop. Oh well, I can already here the frying pan popping Don't really have anything intelligent to add to this thread, but it definitely won't stop me from eating some fish out of there. I would think the bad stuff would be cooked out of it anyway. So ... (more concerned tone) is it worse to swim in the water OR eat fish out of the water???????
flytyer57 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 NEWS FLASH ! ! ! ! There's "poop" in every lake that has any kind of life in or around it. Especailly human life. And did I see something here about regulations? Really? Does anyone really want the government to step in and fix this situation? Do people really want big brother coming onto their property and telling them how they should manage their waste material? Who cares if people are getting sick and fish are dying? Can't have government intruding into the privacy of citizens. Nope. Especially not in a god fearing republican state like Missouri. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

OzarkFishman Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I agree ... POOP has to be one of my top 20 all time words. I want to say it is in my top 10, but that would make me immature But, don't forget about cornholio (who doesn't like a Beavis and Butthead reference ... kicking it back to the 90s)!!
Smalliebigs Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I agree with E, they need to make everyone around that lake have their septics inspected and updated tanks that have moved or been damaged by erosion or construction will leach into the soil before in can go thru the leach field and coil properly.A properly operating septic is fine as long as you have at least and acre and a half of land.I'm on septic in St.Louis County, one of the few and my nieghbor's system was old and not working right and it got nasty. Also as two of my good friends I hate to admit are pleasure boaters. They have 50 foot plus Hatterases with multiple heads as do a ton of boats @ the lake. My friends are diligant in there maitenence of the waste but, there are several boaters at the lake that just release into the lake. It's ilegal and fucking disgusting.I have seen the brown slicks in the channel in the heat of the summer and the worst is you will see parents tubing there kids thru the dung slicks????? this is child abuse if you ask me.Also never swim at the lake in or around large slips that have alot of big boats. You can bet there will be people releasing their waste into the water illegaly.
