That "decent one" was under 3 lbs by far, just decent compared to the recent (6-10 inch) stockings...

I appreciate the input guys, I remember those jet boat photos, I'd love to see some more evidence of "lunkers", if anyone has one?

Got no evidence, so you just have to take my word for it. Caught one in january, near the whistle bridge, that was between 12 and 13 pounds. Big female brown with no "hard water" marks. Had a 7 to 8 pound male spotted, but no hookups.

Sorry, I didn't mean "evidence" in the traditional sense.. I'll take your word for it.

I've always wondered why the Niangua doesn't fair better in terms of large browns. Seems that everything is there for a decent population of large browns, but maybe I'm missing something.

It could also be that Crickets skills have become too advanced, and thus all the big browns have found new water ;)

Its far from my favorite river....but it wouldnt surprise me if there are some 10lb class fish down there. Lots of deep water habitat for refuge...Low numbers are probably related to harvest...Its legal to take 4 browns over 15" down there and there are no bait restrictions.

Probably the stream that would benefit the most from a one brown trout per day statewide limit.

You are exactly right on all counts Gavin.

Yep, I agree better regulations would help. It’s too bad there’s no way to prevent browns from migrating into Bennett Spring Branch where they face certain harvest.

Oh don't kid yourself, a keeper sized brown faces certain harvest in the river too.... and during more months of the year than in the park.
