mic Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 The ones that do are probably rare enough they are not hurting the poplulation very much. ...and they probably know how to care of the fish during release.
ozark trout fisher Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 The real question here, to me, is not so much ethics as just how you like to fish. How many fish do you need to feel like you've had a good day of fishing? There's a different answer for everyone depending on what you are trying to get out it, and no one answer is better than any other really For me I would have to say just a few, or in some cases none. I like to go fishing in places that are remote and pretty enough that I can have a good time even if the fish are off, so I never really worry about it too much. If they are biting of course that's better, and I'll just fish till I've caught a few, and feel that I've learned where they are and what they are taking. Then, as I said earlier, I'm liable to go for a hike or something. This is why I will probably never be much more than an average fisherman, but it also allows me to have a much better time overall than I used to when all I did was fish, and fish hard whenever I went down to the Ozarks. It is possible to get so focused on the fish and the fishing that I can forget about the beautiful place that I am in. Now I try to avoid that as much as I can.
Members kdan Posted August 22, 2011 Members Posted August 22, 2011 Why bother to even leave the house. Not much to waste your time in going fishing is there?? I can assure you if you are killing fish in catch and release you are doing something seriously wrong.
ollie Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I saw that post down on Capps as well and just blew it off cause the guy had only posted twice I think. I say the more the merrier! C&R until your arms are sore! Doesn't bother me any at all. Educating them fish will give you more trophys I would think in the long run. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Buzz Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I seriously C&R each time I go. And I mean that I seriously intend to catch and release as many fish as is possible. I just can't make myself drive over an hour to just catch a few fish and then find something else to do. I go to fish. If you don't fish the entire day, or a good part of it, you can't realy learn the whole dynamic of the fish. It's really just a personal challenge to try to entice fish throughout the day and figure out what they will take. It's not always easy, as you all know, but it is always worth the drive. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

That may be close to true with small dry fly hooks, but as you move up to larger gear some hooking mortality is inevitable. A fish that inhales a bait or is unlucky enough to pierce the arteries under the tounge is likely to die no matter what you do. This subject has been studied to death scientifically. Once you decide to fish you're going to kill a few, catch and release or not.
fishinwrench Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 The more casts you make, the more strikes you detect, more hooksets, more knots you tie, more flies you go through and have to tie...... it all makes you better at this sport. And that is the real goal....To be good at it. And once you become good you wanna be better. And the more you do it the better you become. Practice makes perfect, its a golden rule. When it comes to WORK though, it would be cool if I could quit as soon as the bills are covered.
taxidermist Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Stop at the five fish limit???? If I am not keeping fish then why. Seems to me that if you like to fish then CR is fine, if you want a few to eat thats fine too. Seems silly to me. ok five fish and one canbe a brown trout over 24" thats what is legal here onmore torut water. so then if you catch onebrown you need to stop fishing. cause you might catch another even the fact the first brown trout is 6 inches long.
Trout Commander Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I wonder if the catch and keep fisherman that feel C&R fisherman should stop after landing a limit also think that the dinks they catch themselves should go towards their own limit even though they do not get to keep them? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
