snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Good to see you got out Smallie. Everything is going well my friend. No problem on the backing. I've caught more than my share of the best fish in fresh water (and salt) on a fly rod. I just don't have a boat. Pete

snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Rend lake in the spring. We had been hitting it week after week until it was ON. It took probably a month before we got it at the right time. Could've whacked on em conventional tackle but I held out to take em on the fly We need to get together for a trip. Pete
mic Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 You are correct Mic, the Missouri River is laced with sediment right now and had been all summer from a massive release of water from way up. I also hate to tell you your precious little Blue Springs Creek where I owned property for a long period of time is laced with pathogens, and Ecoli from Bourbon finest septic systems....pick your poison I wasn't trying to compare the Mo and a toilet. I grew up on the Mo in NE Kansas and have ate plenty of big Mo cats. In England the "lou" is a bathroom... like a fag is a smoke. Members T Hood Posted October 1, 2011 Members Posted October 1, 2011 I always crack up when I here comments on this forum that there is no "good" fishing close to St.Louis pure ignorance. We fished 5 hours and caught several Drum from 2 to 6 pounds, which I know alot of you will frown on, we also caught a ton of White Bass from 2 to 3 pounds that most would consider trophies. Then we caught 8 of these brutes and unlike some of you on this forum I enjoy the fight the give up, they were anywhere from 4 to 7 pounds. The only other freshwater fish that compares is a Steelhead in my opinion ***bonus video of some the Bluff and chunk rock banks we caught Hybrids on*** I would like to thank MOsmallies for going out with me....you're like a little brother to me. It was great to get out on the water in a time of turmoil in my life....I thank you buddy. Get out ond fish!!!!! the fishing is awsome right now!!!!! Gentlemen: Looks like a great day! And on the same day when I went out and got 1 bass at ABCA in 7 hours. Is there anywhere on the Missouri to get a crack at these guys from the bank? Looks like great fun. Troy
ozark trout fisher Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Awesome! Nice fish. I can't say quite as much about the Cardinals hat though...

kevthebassman Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Kevin, if you ever want to go let me know....I'll put you on some Hybrids it's a blast...you just need some braid and at the very least a med/heavy rod. Braid an absolute requirement? I had to sell off a couple of my Shimanos, one of which was rigged with braid, I think the one I still have is spooled with fluorocarbon, but if I dig hard enough in all my crapola I could probably come up with enough braid to at least make a respectable bite leader, and maybe enough to put 50 yards on top of the fluoro. Having a tight go of it still until my 2010 tax return gets here, IRS got it March 7th, they told us we'd have it by June at the latest, Wednesday they told us it was for sure going in the mail October 7th, only took them 7 months. What are you catching those Hybrids on, if you don't mind me asking? If it's anything I can approximate with a fly and present with a fly rod, I'd like to at least hook one up on my 5 wt, and see what that Cabela's rod and reel are made of. I paid an extra $8 for the replacement plan, and I get a new one for free if I should happen to break it, so I'm not shy about putting a bend in the rod and hearing the drag scream. Since I'm such a miserable trout fisherman, one of those hybrids is probably my best chance at feeling 10+ pounds of fish on the end of this line. I'll PM you here soon and we can try and hammer out a date.
