Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 10, 2011 Root Admin Posted December 10, 2011 I like Al's point of view on this. I wonder what Angel fans are saying? I bet some of them are miffed at the deal too. That's a lot of money for a good player, as Al said. Cardinals got the best production out of Albert. As for the personal stuff... I'd be slow to judge. No one knows his heart and exactly what he does in his personal affairs.
Jeff Tief Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Have been around baseball all my life as my dad was a big league and minor league player and coach for 40 years. He never begrudged modern day players making so much when he never made much all of those years. He figured rock and movie stars make the same kind of money plus it helped his pension.Players now days can sign one huge multi-year contract and never work again. I had mixed emotions about this deal;10 years is too long for a player who may or may not be 31 but if the GM and front office didn't make some attempt they might have been run out of town also.Let's sign Hanley Ramirez to play short if he wants out of Florida and use a little of what's left over to sign another outfielder
snagged in outlet 3 Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Royals? Isn't that a high school team in Blue Spring? Pete

KCRIVERRAT Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Isn't that a high school team in Blue Spring? Pete Blue Springs to be correct. And BS South won the 6A football title. Played in SL every year. Which KC high school football owns... As far as the Royals go... our no-show Wal-Mart owner, David Glass (here's his pic... ) needs to sell the team. He'd screw up a single high school athletic department, let alone the Royals! HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
stlfisher Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 interesting to hear Albert's wife's comments today that the Cardinals only offered 5 years and 130 million. Not sure If I entirely believe that and while 26 million a year is a ton of money 5 years would not get it done. Oh well glad they got Furcal back, but still work to be done. How about Braun getting busted for PED'S? How stupid can you be?
joeD Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 1. Albert Pujols could have had it ALL. Sign with StL. Plenty of money. Become a baseball God. Become part of a vanishing tradition. Red jackets. Stan. Bob. Lou. Red. 2. In other words, become an integral part of the St. Louis social fabric, that no monetary contract could convey. 3. But. He didn't. 4. He went someplace else. More money. 5. Good for him. 6. He owes us NOTHING. 7. We owe him NOTHING. 8. People of all sorts leave one job for another all the time. Professional athletes are no different. 9. That is right. 10. Professional athletes are no different. They do what is best for themselves and their family. Just as you or I would do. 11. Let me repeat. 12. Lifelong respect or a ton of money. 13. Money will ALWAYS win. 14. Respect? Awww, that's nice. Go sit over there in the loser section. 15. BUT. 16. Albert is gone. 17. So, baseball number-crunchers, I'll ask this, and it is quite logical and simple. 18. Who will make up Albert's 100 RBIs? 19. His 30 HRs? 20. His Gold Gloves? 21. Slugging %. 22. On base %. 23. Leadership? 24. We ignore Albert's numbers at our own peril. Look at them again. They are beyond impressive and probably will not be duplicated in our lifetime. 25. Cardinal management made a business decision. So did Albert.
FishinCricket Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 12. Lifelong respect or a ton of money. 13. Money will ALWAYS win. 14. Respect? Awww, that's nice. Go sit over there in the loser section. Happily. I, for one, will take the former (and a lil less money)... Or at least I always have for the last nine years of my career.. Maybe your right, I should move to a place with more inventory... morals and ethics be dammned! Get that money, right? Sheesh, and people wonder what the heck is wrong with the world.. cricket.c21.com
Justin Spencer Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 1.
