Terry Beeson Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 You bet... We do have short memories in the US... So we all need to reflect... I'd like to take it one step further.... 1. Where were you when you found out about the WTC? I was at work. I was walking to my office when the Engineering Manager met me in the hallway and said "Did you hear? They bombed the World Trade Center..." I looked at him and waited for the punchline... Thought it was a joke... Then realized he was serious. 2. What was your gut reaction to the situation? Honestly? I kept thinking I needed to go home and get my guns and ammo ready to protect my home and family from the invading army of terrorists... 3. Any personal links to the attack/disaster? I called my mom and she was worried about my cousin - her nephew - who had worked near the WTC and was in the WTC often. The only source of news was Yahoo news from Japan and I remember watching the webcast and waiting to hear if Gary was in the city or not. He wasn't. He had an appointment in the building a week before, but was home that morning. But his neighbor across the street and good friend (in Conneticut) was... left a wife and two kids... TIGHT LINES, YA'LL "There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process." - Paul O’Neil

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 11, 2006 Root Admin Posted September 11, 2006 I was at home- someone called and told us to turn the TV on. Then we went down to my parent house (down the street) with the kids and watched the towers fall. I felt numb. I knew this would change the way Americans lived. I thought it would force alot of people to take life more seriously, seek a purpose for life, perhaps a spiritual awakening. It happened but it was short-lived and shallow it seems. We only knew people who knew people who were killed. We did have 2 guests go home from the report and a couple of cancelations but it didn't affect our business like it did others, surprisingly.
davekeim Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I was working at the office listening to AM radio. I heard them report the first plane crash into the tower. I ran around the office telling asll the FM listeners. We all went into the conference room in time to watch the second plane hit the other tower live. Felt a very sick feeling in my stomach. Dead silence in the office. It was very eerie. Went home immediately to gather the family together. Not sure why but it made things a little better Abdito! Another Beautiful Day In The Ozarks
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I was on my way to NE Oklahoma. We had the funeral services for our 6 year old nephew that was killed in a car wreck. Very mixed feelings for me. The grief of what I was doing, and then the emotions of what had just happened. Being prior military - a good A-- whoopin was in order as far as I was concerned. Worring about what was to come and preparing to keep the family safe quickly took over my thoughts after the funeral. I can remember standing at the grave side and watching jets military jets fly overhead. It was a very eerie feeling. As a side bar; our newest member of the Jackson Clan made her appearance today! Granddaughter #3 is doing well in California with her parents. Kilee Renae Jackson weighted in at 8 lbs 6 oz and measured 19 1/2 inches. Just shy of the upper slot, but I think we'll keep her anyway. Don Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Definately worth taking a moment. I work for a federal agency and we were in a training session that morning. We were interrupted my email in the middle of training stating that it seemed like terrorists hit a WTC building with an airplane and updates would follow. My first thought was just how much damage could a two seat cessna do to such a giant building, stupid terrorists. Later, as events would unfold, I rolled through a series of emotions, except panic. I made phone calls to make sure my family was alright. I had no ties to the attack. Our office was closed down just a few hours later and we were sent home. Each year, I reflect on the impact of 9/11 as well as the Oklahoma City bombing that killed fellow agency employees. Americans stood close and strong during 9/11 and immediate months afterwards. Let's not forget how so many of us felt as a United States of America at that time. Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Members TexomaOkie Posted September 11, 2006 Members Posted September 11, 2006 I was traveling to Dallas, TX on company business and listening to talk radio. As soon as the first tower was hit the station went to live network coverage. At first, no one was sure what kind of plane had hit the tower. Then, as the other planes began to hit the other locations it became apparent what was going on. At first, the media was warning people it might be prudent to limit travel. Consequently, I pulled into a truck stop on I-35 near Denton, TX to try to make sense of what was going on and determine how to best proceed. As I stepped inside, I found people packed inside watching a television in the back of the store. Not a word was being spoken by anyone. It was a quiet in a crowded public business I will NEVER forget. Surreal is the word that comes to mind. As anyone who’s ever been around a truck stop knows, it’s a place you’ll find a very diverse group of people. I can’t adequately explain how it felt to witness people from such a wide array of backgrounds demonstrate the common bond we all have as Americans. It’s sad that it sometimes takes a tragedy to unite us as a country. Let us never forget that, no matter our differences, we are all Americans, first. As a tribute to the lives lost on 9/11/01, let us NEVER FORGET the hatred that crashed down upon us, five years ago today, is as real today as it was then!
Steve Smith Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 My best friend and I were heading for a three day fishing incursion on the Mulberry in Arkansas for smallies. Just as we turned off on a dirt road at Ozone Arkansas, the radio broadcasted that there was a plane crash in New York City… that was it. Shortly we had dropped down in the Mulberry bottom and poor radio reception. We fished all morning at Wolf Pen access without any clue of what had just happened. At noon, we decided to grab lunch and a few flys at the Turner Bend store, and everyone was huddled in front of the television watching CNN. For whatever reason, it made me think of my Dad talking about his experience at Pearl Harbor, utterly helpless in an unprovoked attack. Our first thought, almost un unison was that somebody was going to get their butt kicked. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
