Fishslayer88 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I don't know about a breeding population but i have seen a mountain lion on my grandmas place 2 deer seasons in a row now she has 1500 acres in Ozark county right next to another 1000 acres of conservation land, This year i got a real good look at it, it walked about 50 yards out in front of my stand right through my food plot. My friend also killed a small doe this year that had claw marks on its back right below the loins that were pretty deep. We contacted the conservation about it and they didn't seem surprised an agent came out and looked at the deer and asked if we minded them putting up some trail cameras and never heard back from them, which i don't mind really the cat isn't hurting anything and i would like to set up a blind or a trail cam and get some pictures of it myself. If i do i will gladly put them up for you all to see.
ollie Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I know my county agent told me the MDC officially admits they are here, but for the breeding part there just isn't enough proof as of yet. drew03cmc Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Come on down, to where HWY 32 and A intersect and see all these Bobcats with real long tails, they are pretty cool looking. Be sure and bring your Tenkara rods we have some Rainbow Darters that need to be cleaned out of Ottery Creek Smalliebigs, that is hilarious. I saw a mountain lion deep in the interior of the Devil's Backbone Wilderness Area, Ozark Country where Fishslayer is seeing them. I was within 50 yards of it, mid-day, full sunlight and there was no doubt it was a lion. I've never seen a Bigfoot or a UFO, or any ghosts for that matter, but I know beyond doubt that I saw a mountain lion. This was back in the mid-1980s. I lived and guided hunters and fishermen in this area for a few years during the late 80s/early 90s, heard them scream upon occasion and had lion tracks in my garden one spring. The MDC didn't have any proof of lions back then, so they treated me like a fool when reporting it. When I later saw a black bear on the Eleven Point, I didn't bother reporting it. They also don't think there is a breeding population of lions in the state, but every serious woodsman knew decades ago that substainable populations existed in the most rugged and remote areas. Now they are being recored and proven in many parts of the state, even near suburban areas. The recent capture was near where I now live and guide (Black and lower Current rivers). I believe that instead of all these sighting being young males migrating from northern states, we are seeing a natural expansion of the rage of indegenious animals, and the dramatic increase in proven sitings during 2011 indicates a equally dramatic population increase. Anyone with any knowledge of mammalia knows that the instinct to mate is closely behind the instinct to feed, drink and have shelter. Male mammals will not go someplace where one of their primary instincts cannot be met. Andy

3wt Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I think we can all take a deep breath and relax. MDC isn't trying to hide the truth. They work with proof, not anecdote. They know how unreliable these accounts can be, and they want to get proof before making positve id. Things that aren't proof:-my uncle saw one and he knows his stuff -deer camera picture printed from the internet -i heard them mating -i see them regularly. I just don't bother taking pictures They may very well be here, breeding and in bigger numbers than we think. If you can prove it MDC will be happy to accept it. Until then it's can't be considered proven even if it is true. It's not a conspiracy. Take of your tinfoil hats.
Fishslayer88 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 everyone knows armadiller hats block even the best brainwave scanners.. only Quakers use tinfoil...
David Unnerstall Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Good point, Drew. Otherwise we must surmise that all those lions we're seeing are gay, and Missouri is the hotbed of the Gay Lion Liberation Front. There's gotta be a reason why all of the lions in Wyoming kicked them out of the state.
