exiledguide Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I was wondering if Missouri had a classification for stream smallmouth in the stae big fish records?
laker67 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 As far as I know, everything is all tackle and farm ponds included. No separation of stream or lake or private property. No fly rod, no line class, catch it on a french fry and you got it.
LittleRedFisherman Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I was looking at the records when I got my MDC fishing book where I got my licence. Isn't the record smalllie from Stockton Lake, between 6 and 7 pounds I think. Would be a dandy, although I saw a video from Onterio Canada the other day, and they claim those are average up there. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
FishinCricket Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Surely, if there is a separate record for streams, someone on this forum has held it at some point.. We've got a whole gaggle of fellas who routinely stick record class fish, I'm told.. cricket.c21.com
Al Agnew Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Record by length or by weight? I know I wouldn't have either one. I've caught a couple that were right around five pounds, and a couple that were 22 inches or so, but I know that bigger fish have been caught on Ozark streams. There was a guy on here for a short time who had photos of one he caught on the Gasconade that was something like 25 inches.

FishinCricket Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Sure as heck wasn't me!! I go for quantity, not quality.. (a lesson my daddy taught me, though I think in hindsight he wasnt talkin bout da feesh) cricket.c21.com
exiledguide Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 The reason I ask was I know that fish of the same length in lakes in NW Ontario weighed more than fish from Missouri streams. I've caught Smallmouth 22" in the Ouachita River in Arkansas and 20" in the Upper Big Piney I just assumed they didn't weigh anywhere near 5lbs. I might have to rethink carrying a camera. As for as that being the average in Ontario that sounds like a Molson tale. Take off hoser, eh! In all my trips up there an 18' smallmouth was big news. I was fortunate to stumble along with my wife on a reef loaded with quality smallmouth which when I saw them on one of them new fangled graphs (this was June 1992) I told my bride we were going to catch some big walleye so we droppe 1/16 oz smoke pepper twister grubs tipped with a piece of nightcrawler and in 3 hours we wore out smallmouth catching and releasing 24 over 15'' with a best 12 weighing probably over 3lbs each and of course she caught the largest.
moguy1973 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I can believe the Canada sized fish. My dad takes a yearly trip up to upper Alberta and catches 3-5 lb smallies all day long. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Members burninworm Posted March 13, 2012 Members Posted March 13, 2012 They get big in Maine, I've seen Lake smallies around 5 lbs caught pretty routinely, I personally stuck a 3 + lbr on the Kennebec river on the 6w fly rod. I'm not much of a fisherman either.
