Greasy B Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 My understanding is that they are raised in a series of ponds, I would be courious to learn the cost per inch compared to rainbows. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
ness Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 can someone explain to this dumb young redneck why the regulations shouldn't change to protect browns that run up towards the springs in the summer? or are we jus arguing because its the internet and we can? I think you're a wise young redneck. The answer was way back on page 1 (I think), and has been repeated a number of times since then. That's the way things work around here. [spoiler ALERT] This will end up with nothing being done by anybody about anything. John
awhuber Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 [spoiler ALERT] This will end up with nothing being done by anybody about anything. I disagree. The geenies will stop the stocking of the brownies to save the Ozark Hellbender.
fishinwrench Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I disagree. The geenies will stop the stocking of the brownies to save the Ozark Hellbender. Not a chance. Hellbenders are cool but they don't generate much revenue. Money talks, and that's why we are short on hellbenders in the first place.

Dont bet on it Wrench, I never thought I would see a day that a rat stopped sub-divisions or commercial development but it happened. I have seen tortouses stop them as well. Cash doesnt always talk when it comes to an endangered species or threatened one. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Have you noticed that many credible articles about the reason for decline of the Ozark Hellbender seem to be trying to divert our attention to reasons other than the introduction of trout. FWS is saying that their decline is due to increased siltation, water quality degradation, and increased impoundments. No mentioning of trout. Now the big reason is an infectious disease called "chytrid fungus" which is thought to be the reason for hellbenders missing appendages. The introduction of trout as the reason is rarely, if at all, mentioned in any article that I've read. http://www.youtube.com/user/BruteFish83/videos

Addicted to Creeks Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Time to start finding hellbender flies Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds. —Charles Dudley Warner

The day they stop stocking Brown trout in the Ozarks (or in the case of the Niangua..."claiming to") I will eat the felt off your boots
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I would think the only reason they even stock browns is to produce trophy fish, I can't think of any other reason. If they aren't part of the put and take, and I don't see why they would be, then protecting them statewide makes sense. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
