laker67 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 The potential to become big and trophy size is greater in browns then rainbows. I have caught way more trophy rainbows than browns.
Feathers and Fins Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Here is the start of the letter who can add to it To the Missouri Department of Conservation. Regarding: A request to further promote the trophy fishery for German Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) We the below request that in an attempt to further the trophy fishing potential of this valuable resource to the State of Missouri that the legal length limit be increased state wide to 20 inches and that the daily bag limit be reduced to 1 fish per day per angler with 2 in possession. We are requesting this regulation change in the hopes of creating a true trophy fishery in the State of Missouri. We believe a trophy fishery will increase angler attention and awareness of this unique and eloquent species that in turn will boost interest in conservation of the species and the lakes , rivers and streams it resides in. We further believe this change will help boost the local economies surrounding the waters in which these fish reside in, as anglers from around the Nation and Perhaps the World will see Missouri’s Brown Trout as a species to be sought after. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
fishinwrench Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Lets start a petition for trophy Rainbows too..... just to see which one hits the trash can first.
Members northernranger Posted March 20, 2012 Author Members Posted March 20, 2012 Lets start a petition for trophy Rainbows too..... just to see which one hits the trash can first. Don't be foolish! All trout in the blue ribbon section have to 18". I have caught nice rainbows in this section. The PARK needs to honor the same regulation on the browns, otherwise they are wasting time and money.
eric1978 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Lets start a petition for trophy Rainbows too..... just to see which one hits the trash can first. LOL Exactly. Finish the letter...I'll sign it. You might wanna lose the word "eloquent," though. I haven't had a whole lot of captivating dialogue with trout. Elegant? Elusive? Exquisite?

Chief Grey Bear Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 You need to think of not only our wishes for trophy trout but also the general public who's voices far out weigh ours. I remind you of the brownie debate a few weeks ago. You seen how that went. Other then "I want to catch bigger fish", I would like to see a healthier and more mature river. Everyone knows that they are not natural, but they are there and are going to stay there. As long as they continue to stock them. Just curious, when and why did Browns become so much more "special" than Rainbows? About the same time that the smallmouth became more important that any other bass in the river. Browns are not anymore special than rainbows. We have plenty of rainbows and we love them. The topic is about browns because we want them to be manged properly. They are managed properly. Just not to suit your personal needs. I have caught way more trophy rainbows than browns. Don't be rocking the boat there laker!!!! BruteFish83 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Here is the start of the letter who can add to it I strongly believe that trophy trout fishing can be improved if we simply harvest legal fish. I think that too many legal fish are being caught and released with the belief that they'll get even bigger for next time. While this is probably true, the pecking order by which the trout live remains the same. I think that we as anglers need to disrupt that pecking order by harvesting an occasional legal trout, resulting in larger, faster growing fish. Again, I'm no scientist. Just very interested. Thoughts? http://www.youtube.com/user/BruteFish83/videos
