flyrodman Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I found a tarantula thing in my basement. Creepy stuff. I hope you get better soon! Luke Walz
Feathers and Fins Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 Thanks Guys, I knew more about the bite and the treatment then my doctor. Funny thing is I called a couple friends that are scientist specializing in toxins to verify my treatment diagnoisis before going to the doctor and all I got from them is ( Send pictures, Please have blood work done so we can anylize it, Have a biopsy done for us etc ) What wonderful friends I have lol. Not like I would request the same thing if it wasnt me though. Its my second go around with a bite from one and just will take a few days before I can walk much it got me right below the calf just above the ankle so not a fun places for walking. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Al Agnew Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 From what I've read, it's really tough to get rid of brown recluses...most of the time sprays won't do it, though they might kill off the bugs that the brown recluses eat. These spiders are very common around here. We see them regularly in the house, regularly enough that we are careful when picking up clothing that has been lying on the floor overnight and putting it on, we are watchful when removing pictures from the walls, and we shake out shoes. My wife was bitten by one right where the waistband of her underpants was one time, and it was not a pleasant experience, though she was fortunate in that it healed in a couple of weeks without major tissue damage.
KCRIVERRAT Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Been fighting them here at the house for about the last four years now. Killed one last week that was definately one of the biggest I've dealt with. They don't get that big, but a full grown adult with it's legs spread out is a bit freaky when it's a dang Brown Recluse. I've read that 75 to 80% of homes in Missouri have them. And yes... they are hard to get rid of because of their reclusive nature. We've tried those "spray bombs" to no avail. Like Al said, killed plenty of the bugs they eat but only a few spiders. Most I kill are in my garages, rec. room, and laundry room. All located downstairs where it's moist. Kill a few upstairs but not many. Still... not many is TOO many. We've got our woodpile a little too close to the house I think. But if the stats are right, 75 to 80% of Missouri homes don't have a woodpile. And if they do... then Arkansas has to be at least 101%... HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
fishinwrench Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Recluses, BW's, and their demon cousins just LOVE outboard motors that have been setting awhile and I have run-ins with them alot. The creepy basturds, I hate them! I've noticed quite a few dead lizards and toads around my shop this year and I suspect that I have either a tarantula or some scorpions hiding out somewhere. I just know one of those mofo's is gonna surprise me one day soon and I'll scream like Jamie lee Curtis.
WakenLake Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I know a guy who let his friend store his little jon boat in the living room and now has a inch cutout gash in his arm from a brown recluse. Stupid move. www.jordanvalleyautorepair.com
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Just my non scientific thought on spiders. I try my best not to kill any spider. From what I understand, spiders eat Mosquitoes, and other bugs. I have been bitten many, many times from mosquitoes, but I can not (for sure) remember one time being bitten by a spider. My thoughts are if I kill a spider it will allow (X) number of mosquitoes to live to bite me. I will allow all spiders to live, even the brown recluse. I know that people in my area, often see a brown spider and instantly incorrectly identify it as a brown recluse. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I agree they are often mis identified. I have to watch for them in my shop, which has way too much crap in it and the recluse and other spiders love it.. The problem I have is that I have a lot wolf spiders who eat things I don't like and I don't want to kill them. I was bitten a couple of years ago, but I got lucky because the bite didn't have a lot of toxin in it. I did sweat it though because depending on the amount of toxin injected they can be pretty ugly bites. I had a neighbor many years ago that was bitten and you could have put half of a baseball in the hole it left in his calf. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
