i guess i should watch more swamp people

Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds.

Better late than never. I did not realize it was a problem to own an alligator in this state. I remember when pet stores carried them. I was even nicked on the finger by a little feller, the teeth on the small ones are like a snake, but a stronger bite.

I really don't know what the scare is, even if let go, they would not survive one winter here. If they could, they would have already populated naturally from Ark in the south.

They can survive our Winters they just can't sustain themselves naturally because all the eggs would be of tbe same sex. The temperature of the egg determines male/female.

Isn't that correct? Where's our community herpatologist ?

Hey, who hacked my dung ? I did not give my permission to have "Mo.Smallmouth Challenge" shoved into my signature. WTF? Someone please rid me of that !

True on egg temp deciding sex but also possible depending on the nest that the temps would be enough to create male and female. If they actually became climated to our area I would suspect females to nest later than in the south and then we could have a population. There is evidance of some snakes that were thought to only be able to live in the subtropical climate to be able to survive further north than previously thought.

its possible for gators to survive up here or more so in the lower part of the state anyway.

That's nothing. I heard someone released some Great Whites in Bennett Springs.

Sweet, time to get me one of those fake topwater rubber seals. And some giant hooks.

I was thinking more of a Yorkshire Terrier emerger fly pattern

Yorky isnt a good pattern for gator. Pommerainian<sp> and Siamese <sp> are the to prime patterns with other small mammals working pretty well.

Serious story, I had some people move in next to me in FL they had 5 Poms and let them out one day came home from work and they were "missing" they put up flyers all over the place and finally went door to door ASKING IF ANYONE had seen their dogs. When they hit my house I told them "Walley had see them" They asked who Walley was and I pointed to the 10ft gator sunning itself in their back yard!

Its one of those "DUH" moments. You move to FL you have a swamp in your backyard and you let your feeders er little dogs run right along the shore, What do you think will happen? I went out on numerous calls for gators in yards and when you get there the hosue has a pond, canal or lake behind it with no fence.
