rps Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I am still in winter hibernation mode. I guess. I did not get up and out on the water until 9:00. I fished a topwater in one large cove near Holiday Islland until noon. 13 fish, including one smaller than my lure. Two were pinch tail keepers. One fish made the day. 20.75 inches, more than 5 less than 6. First good fish of the year, first good fish on my new top water rod. First solo net fish since last fall's surgery. Water temp 60 to 65 degrees. Lots of people out. Didn't see many catching fish.
denjac Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Thats a dandy ! Those rubber nets dont help with the self net thing. There kinda heavy, but sure are nice not getting hooks tangled up in them. Ham Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I looked at the photo BEFORE I saw who posted. I should have known. Nice fish man. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
dtrs5kprs Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Well done. Top Dollar I assume. Had a couple on chugger & fin today. First TW of the trip.
rps Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 The rubber nets, IMO, are easier on the fish. Since I CR all bass and small walleye, that is important to me. I do wish they were lighter and didn't "bounce." And yes that is a Top Dollar peeking out of the mouth. The fish really ate it and it was difficult to extract the lure without tearing gills
Sore Thumbs Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Are you changing hooks? Any other alterations that help you catch more fish? Thanks.
rps Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Are you changing hooks? Any other alterations that help you catch more fish? Thanks. I use Daiichi Death Traps and I tie the tail feathers with a little tinsel. That will improvr the hook up and action. The other step I took is merely vanity - just like the vanity plates for your truck or car. I had Tim Hughes paint 20 of them. Sample attached below.
bluebasser86 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 My friends made fun of me after I broke out one of those Top Dollars after seeing you catch so many nice fish on them. The fish around here kill them too and they don't laugh anymore when I get it out
rps Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 Norman lures makes the Top Dollar. They are very inexpensive. Try them. They work.
