dtrs5kprs Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 Subscribed. What are you using to film? Kodak waterproof HD PlaySport. Works ok, sort of a booger at times when you are alone.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 Ned has the Table Rock finesse story up at his blog today. Hopefully it will fill in some Table Rock specific gaps. http://www.in-fisherman.com/2012/05/10/midwest-finesse-goes-to-table-rock-lake-according-to-david-reeves/
motoman Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Awesome read there Dave!......Ole In-Fisherman should send you some $$$ for that great write up.:-)
dtrs5kprs Posted May 13, 2012 Author Posted May 13, 2012 Thanks Doug. Having done it quite a bit, is there anything that you are doing differently from my description? Locations, baits, etc? As asked above, next challenge is to see if it will work out a little deeper. Sort of not the purpose, meaning it is designed for chasing fish shallow, but can't see any reason why it should not work. Think the biggest issue using it deeper will be not fouling up the profile with a too large head. Want to try it out in the areas where we normally drag a c-rig, tube, etc.
crazy4fishin Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I used the Ned rig again this weekend at a little 300 acre NRD lake and I fished it any where from 1' to around 12' and it performed great. Not only did I catch bass but also black crappie, crappie and even a perch. I went to the Ned after trying the ole standby's like spinner baits and a 1.5 square bill, with no luck - i think the success is a result of the fish seeing something different both in profile and presentation. First time I threw it was similar to as you describe, except it was at Table Rock last spring. Fished all the usual stuff, including "standard" finesse like grubs and shakey heads with minimal success. Bit the bullet about 1230pm that day and picked up the little rig. Started with a smallmouth from about 18" of coverless water and finished the day with a several keepers and too many shorts to count. Have heard more than a few stories that go that way. Glad to hear it is working for you. Try it on some riprap or state built rock piles if those little lakes have any. That is where it really shines in KS and NW MO. Should be the same in IA if you get that way, 3 Mile/12 Mile/Little River.
Ealy Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I have a friend that has used the same basic setup on the river for a few years...a 1/16th oz head with half a senko. It always produces for him. I'm headed down to the river this weekend for a maiden voyage in my kayak. I was wondering where I could find some of the gopher heads. Does BPS or Fin n Feather carry them?
Members tmoney Posted May 15, 2012 Members Posted May 15, 2012 I was at BP yesterday and all I could find was 1/8th. So that's what I had to go with

Link is below: http://gophertackle.com/ Outkast also makes a head that will work. I buy those from Tackle Warehouse (although their site is super slow this morning): http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Outkast_Money_Jig_4pk/descpage-OKMJ.html A 1/16oz ball head will also work, with a #2 or even a #4 hook. Just sharpen it up if it is non-needlepoint. Regardless of the brand or type, a bigger deal is maintaining the right profile. A big hook or head may not do that. Smaller hooks also come through cover better. Have not fished a bigger head yet. Did pour some 3/32 and 1/8 button heads and will have those in the boat when at the lake in June. Off to make A-rigs now. Talk about diverse...
Goggle-Eyed Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I am pretty sure I was doing this long before it was cool! I was doing it because I was poor and about to run out of senkos!!!
