Wayne SW/MO Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Here's the lanyard I have. There are others that are probably just as handy. I don't carry the fly box, you can't get a gill bug in it much less a #2 popper. Mine came with 2 zingers. It does offer options. yesterday I went cruising for gills and threw a small box in a cargo pocket and everything else I might need is on the lanyard. The zinger is long enough to easily reach a fish with forceps and there are 2 clips that attach it to your shirt and prevent it from swinging out when you bend over. Basically it keeps the thngs you always take with you ready no matter what else you need or don't need. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
stlfisher Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I am a sling pack all the way and i have yet to find anything that suits me better. I'd hate a vest and chest pack too. I wish I could find another just like it to hold bass flies instead of changing stuff out. I know a fisherman who just uses his wife's old purses. Catches fish like crazy and has lot's of space.

It's not a purse...it's European.
strangercreek Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I bought a Fish Pond San Juan Pack and a Fish Pond Flint Hills vest at the same time, never used the vest or even took the tags off it, returned it and got a refund. The San Juan is good IMO, not to big, not to small, holds several of the flat Anglers Image fly boxes, gadgets, and I can wear it as a chest, sling, or waist pack (has adjustable straps). I use a couple of carabiners for hemos, nippers, and sometimes even carry net with the magnetic release. I can't see myself going back to a vest. I've also used it to carry a small tackle box when spin fishing at a farm pond. 59 bucks and it seems to be built to last forever. I like Fishpond's stuff. I like how they named a few of their items after Kansas (Flint Hills, Deep Creek, which is a creek out by Manhattan, Blue River which is a river out by Manhattan).
Members Ed fly fishin addict Posted June 8, 2012 Members Posted June 8, 2012 Orvis sling pack here, if i bend over it will ride up my back but otherwise I love it. But if your sitting in a boat with a chair with a back to it it can be a pain
ness Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Ness, I think that would be classified as a chest pack with a backpack if you are having trouble figuring out how to vote. It is probably the same one that I use in winter or on longer fishing trips when I need the kitchen sink. You can carry a ton and still not have back problems like with a traditional vest. Yeah that's probably what it is technically, but it's pretty compact. Here's a picture of it: I rarely use the hydration bag, but it's kinda nice to have sometimes. John

Here's a picture of it: I rarely use the hydration bag, but it's kinda nice to have sometimes. That is a beast of burden. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
ness Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 If you mean heavy and/or high capacity -- not at all. By the time I stuff my rain jacket in the back it's pretty-much full. 2 to 4 smallish fly boxes up front. John
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 So will the hydration bag hold a fifth? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ness Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Oh, I'm sure it would. I never even thought of it though. I have a hard enough time staying on my feet without that. John
