Jason Essary Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 My turn to vent about the bad common sense on the water lately. Saturday night around 8pm (still good daylight) my partner and I were fishing the mouth of a small pocket next to a bluff end point. We were around 100 yards in the pocket, the pocket being 6 to 800 yards deep. We were a little over a full cast from the bank, maybe 60 yards. Behind us was 400 yards to the other side of the pocket. Minding our own business, a pleasure crafter came towards the pocket. He shut down outside of us and idled into the pocket. We saw that for some reason he was coming between us and the bank. We kept casting and watching him as he approched. Finally just before he entered our range, we raised our arms in protest. He shut off the engine and asked "what?" We told him as he could see we were fishing right here, he stated sorry, turned the engine on and idled right down the bank in front of us. couple cross words were mumbled. He drove to the back of the cove, done a couple dougnuts and left out the other side, seemingly coming into the pocket for no reason. Now time to hear everyone elses common sense stories. Quillback Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 I don't know if anything can be done about it, if you spend time on the water fishing, you're going to run across this kind of stuff especially during the summer.
Champ188 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Ron White nailed it: You can't fix stupid. You also can't fix don't give a rat's azz. You guys were obviously dealing with one or the other — or both.
exiledguide Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Look at the dildo heads on the highways killing themselves driving while under the influance or texting or dialing their 'phones or reading the sales reports or watching dvd video, why should these useless garbage be any different on the water. There were 2 of you and one of him I would have handled it differently............

powerdive Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 You toothless, tobacky-spittin', bass-worshipin', sleeveless, cornbread 'n' Moon Pie-eatin' Ozarkers are spoiled. Your artificial lakes are 10 to 50 times the size of those natural lakes those up north, and about a tenth as busy. Get over yourselves, quit complaining, and learn how to be sociable. Mostly tongue-in-cheek, except for the spoiled/busy part. Really, at least down here you can still fish on the weekends. It's not nearly as bad as some make it out to be, in my opinion.
Feathers and Fins Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 I see it day in day out on the water. 4029 NEWS had it on their site 4 drownings in 4 weeks and they think boating safety classes are going to help LMAO!!! NO ENFORCEMENT IS WHAT WILL HELP... I have started getting a little attitude and am very much about to put my old tricks back to play for these kind of people. Its called a large reel with 65pnd braid with an 8oz sinker on it and 30 treble hooks above it and when its obvious they are about to be rude just for the sake of it throw the rig out and let their prop get it and all the line. I aint done that in years but this year is testing my blood presure with these people. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
rps Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 I have been spooled twice, I have had a slalom skier throw water into the boat, I've been swamped twice (back when I had a river boat), and I can't count the number of times I've had to take evasive action. I never expect to fish an area undisturbed and I wear my vest at all times. I have finally come to terms with the concept that common sense is uncommon and courtesy is a term only used with dower. (You'll have to google courtesy and dower to get that joke)

powerdive Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Yes, I had a young lady pulling a tube nearly remove me from the gene pool a couple summers ago. However, as I intimated rather capriciously above (more words for you, rps), it could be much worse. And with all the homes and resorts around the lake, it's not going to get any better. So everybody might as well just learn to deal with it.
