gotmuddy Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Time to put a 10hp limit on streams and rivers. that would up the ante for people wanting to run the rivers. before I had my jet going up the 11pt was definetly rough everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Al Agnew Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Or enforce the same no wake rules as are supposed to be on the reservoirs, no wake within 100 feet of the banks. Which would pretty much preclude running jets in most places, since you can't GET more than 100 feet from the banks on most of the rivers. Of course, that ain't gonna happen. Even horsepower limits like there are on the Riverways and on the Eleven Point don't solve all the problems. If you can run a jetboat, no matter how fast, you'll be throwing wakes and if you're stupid you'll be stupid no matter how much horsepower you have. I just wish that there was some way of limiting the kind of stupidity that leads to dangerous situations for other river users and that damages the banks and endangers river critters.
Smalliebigs Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Muddy, not sure why it's a big deal to post something from one site to another??? I met the flapping head Canadians that make these hulls a long time ago and when I saw their vid on Tinboats, I thought I would post it here to get a reaction and well.....you see the comments. You guys freaking out over people running their boat like this are very paranoid!!!! 1) the guys in this video are engineers who helped design the hull and it's exterior shell. they were obviously given a hull to try and see what it could do. this is a very extreme example of jetboating that someone who paid for the hull would more than likely never do. CHILL OUT 2) they filmed this video on a tidal creek on a remote Alaskan Peninsula. i highly doubt any other people were around other than the filming crew and them for several hundred miles. 3)Habercraft makes a kickass hull and are some of the best inboard jets you can buy if you have the cash.....i highly doubt a methhead would be able to afford as you have insinuated and generally methheads don't own jets from what i have experienced but you guys can lable people that run jets all you want.......i figured that would happen. 4) Canoe outfitters with their drunk flotillas do more damage than jetboats to our rivers.......why don't you guys lable them as "methheads"????? if you guys are worried about jet boats, there are a few that can push the limits and you might want to look for FireFish makes a hull that they market as the 4X4 of jet boats see the Snapper on their site it's crazy http://www.firefish.ca/boats.php
oneshot Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Ok truth I have a Small Boat I can use on the Niangua, but have to pull it over the riffles. Not fun when Temps are down around Zero.So I have a 1852 cost me $1,500 to put Jet Drive on it,really too Big for the Niangua but Pomme de Terre below my place I could run it with no problems and not have to get out and pull it over the riffles. So talk me out of thinking of doing this. ???? oneshot

Well I don't know. They allow bikes on trails but not motocycles. Pretty easy to figure out why. Al Agnew Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Oh, I agree with you there, Chief. I've likened running jetboats on rivers like the middle Meramec on summer weekends to having a highway that was being used by walkers, joggers, bicyclists, mothers pushing babies...and vehicles going 70 mph. We wouldn't do that on any highway, but there isn't a huge amount of difference between that and having high speed jetboats running the river along with rafters, canoes, kayaks, and little kids swimming. I'm really pretty surprised that some jetboat jockey hasn't run over one of those other users and killed them by this time. But most people do have enough sense to get out of the way when they hear a jetboat coming, and most jetboat users are reasonably alert to other people. The possible problem, Smalliebigs, is somebody seeing this video, buying one of those boats, and thinking they can run it just like those guys did. And I gotta disagree with you that the drunken renters do more damage than jetboats. As obnoxious as they are, they don't do much just by paddling their craft except leave paint or aluminum or vinyl on some of the rocks. I'm still convinced, even though I own one, that jetboat wakes have damaged and continue to damage the banks of some of the rivers, and possibly still affect spawning success of game fish.

No, I wasn't going so much on the safty angle, though that is also a very valid point. But more of a damage angle. Bicycles cause much less, if any, damage to trails. While we have all seen what motocross bikes and 4-wheelers can do.
