Members Thomas Rogers Posted July 31, 2012 Members Posted July 31, 2012 I just got off four great days on the current got a few days left on vacation looking to get back at it thought about the big river as well as the black but both look really low on the gauges not really into the 31/2 half our drive back to the current so thinking about the Meramec any suggestions on a 7 mile float that might be float able as well as good fishing ? Thanks
Guest csfishinfool Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I would hit the Eleven Point, has plenty of water, freezing cold , and great fishing. Also very close to the current.
Blazerman Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 You might want to try Plum Ford to Shady beach on the Meramec. The folks at Shady Beach can shuttle you to Plum Ford and you will float back to your vehicle. There is some nice water there that doesn’t get much pressure. I think it is 6.5 or 7 miles and should have decent water for floating and plenty of spots to wade and fish. Shady beach is off highway K south of St. Clair right at the K bridge. For $20 they will shuttle you or you can rent a canoe for a little more. 1 hour from downtown St. Louis or 20 minutes from 6 flags. Shady Beach (636) 629-8266 136 Shady Beach Ln, St Clair, MO 63077
Members Thomas Rogers Posted July 31, 2012 Author Members Posted July 31, 2012 I have really heard good things about the eleven point and being that it is spring fed like the current should be floatable only thing is i live in jefferson county was trying to avoid the 3+ hour trip back down that direction that's why I was looking at the meramac its closer to me and easier to get transportation thanks for the info
2sheds Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 But if you find enough time for the drive, you REALLY need to check out the Eleven Point River. Camp at Greer Cross, catch trout there, easy on-day float down to Turner Mill. Contact Brian at Eleven Point Canoe Rental for latest fishing info. I grew up in StL and spent my summers on the Current, but never checked out the EPR. Now that I live in Texas and only get to come up once each year, its hard to justify a mid-summer float trip anywhere else.
Gavin Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 You have lots of options on the Middle Meramec...Onandaga to Blue Spring is probably the most scenic stretch, but I cant say that one section is any better than another. Have fun.
moguy1973 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I've heard the stretch from Meramec Springs to Scotts Ford is pretty nice and you can get smallies and trout in that section...and it's right at 7 miles... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Members Dirtworm Posted August 14, 2012 Members Posted August 14, 2012 I would echo mo guy. We put in a a couple miles below the spring on Saturday, took out a mile past Indian springs. Only had to get out of the canoe once. Great float, cold clear water. "Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing." John 21:3 KJV If you don't catch 'em at night, try again in the morning.
Members BLUEWATER Posted August 17, 2012 Members Posted August 17, 2012 Is there a put in spot between the spring and Cardiac?
Midwest troutbum Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 A MO dept of conservation lot and fishing access exists off highway 8 next door to the troutpark. Other than that its mostly a very remote or steep and long difficult hike with watercraft including cardiac hill and suicide hill. A few private property owners land is adjacent to the rivers but are not too welcoming to outsiders. Greens canoe rental? puts in somewhere near or above the spring. These are the only real options for that stretch of the upper meramec river. "In golf as in life it is the follow through that makes the difference."-unknown
