Mitch f Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Phil, as the guys say you're doing a splendid job! I lost my father 2 weeks ago and know what you are dealing with right now. Peace be with you "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Justin Spencer Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Sickness or loss of a loved one puts the rest of the world in prospective and reminds you what is really important. Many of life's problems seem pretty trivial after going through something like this. Phil and Mitch my thoughts are with you as you deal with tough times. Hang in there and things will get better. jdmidwest Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Political discussions have been pretty civil for the most part till some tend to make personal attacks against others. Same seems to go with religious beliefs. But there are some that view the forum as only fishing information and seem to call foul when anything other than fishing is posted. I have always felt this forum has been more about the Ozark Community, not just fishing. We exchange ideas on hunting, gardening, and other hobbies. If it was just about fishing, this forum would get pretty boring. A little variety liven's things up around here as long as it is productive and not destructive. Al Agnew Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Sorry to hear about what you're going through, Phil...just because most of us will or have gone through it doesn't make it any easier. I agree, well put, jd... But I have to say that some political topics can make my blood boil if I let it. What I can't stand is sound bytes and slogans, because they never get to the real truth about anything. I love civil, in depth political discussions. Once you get to that kind of political discourse it becomes informative and interesting.
Gavin Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Best regards to you Phil, Mitch too...my dad passed 4 years ago today...tough time, but his death is what it was. Brought the family closer. I think he'd be proud of how we have carried on... Wouldnt mind a politcal forum...maybe make folks opt in..and leave it unmoderated...you get what you get and dont be a cry baby..
Mitch f Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I guess since the invention of cable news or at some point when true unbiased journalism died there have been radicals on both sides who try to fan the flames and I admit I get caught up in it. I have never seen such a contentious election in my lifetime. With the Hannity's and Matthews (even though they are not supposed to be journalists) out there its hard to see how our country can have a civil political climate. I wonder what year the historians will say true journalism died? BTW, I like your idea Gavin, no cry babies! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Wouldnt mind a politcal forum...maybe make folks opt in..and leave it unmoderated...you get what you get and dont be a cry baby.. There's never any point in crying...at least not over an internet forum. But an un-moderated political forum would degenerate into what you see at the end of very article on MSN or Fox or CNN...and that is just some seriously sad stuff. I'm willing to help however is helpful, but there's no point in a political discussion if you hand it over to the bomb throwers.
joeD Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Life is too short to be little. Man is never so manly as when he feels deeply, acts boldly, and expresses himself with frankness and with fervour. Benjamin Disraeli Oh, yeah, that's right. That's what's it's all about, all right. But talkin' about it and bein' it, that's two different things. I mean, it's real hard to be free when you are bought and sold in the marketplace. Of course, don't ever tell anybody that they're not free, 'cause then they're gonna get real busy killin' and maimin' to prove to you that they are. Oh, yeah, they're gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom. But they see a free individual, it's gonna scare 'em. George Hanson "Easy Rider"
