Members CanoeBoy Posted September 30, 2012 Members Posted September 30, 2012 First time at TR. Launced from Indian Point with a canoe and I wasn't sure how i would do since the lake was so big. I caught 11 fish thanks to a guide I met on the lake. Fished for 9 hrs and only caught 2 the first 6 hrs i fished on top water early in the morning. Thanks to the guide I met who kindly shared some tackle and techniques using grubs on jigs I caught the remainder of my bag all smallies with one 4 lb Kentucky right by the doc on my way to shore. I am not sure if it was the depth of the water or the species, it was my first time catching smallmouths, but I was surprised how much of a fight these fish were giving me. Had a blast, returned the next day but the wind prevented me from targeting certain ares. What a great lake, can't wait to go back!
moguy1973 Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Sounds like another hooked on smallie fishing. Probably one of the hardest fighting fish pound for pound. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
motoman Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Nice report canoe!......but that's just the pi$$ed off nature of the smallmouth!.......they're always mad about somethin'!:-)

In all seriousness I have not had one fishing guide on the rock or beaver ever say hire me for the info in fact its very much the opposite most are very willing to give the info and help you out even when they have clients. They know the best advertising is WORD OF MOUTH and by helping others the word will spread about them. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Whether I see a guide on the ramp or on the water; they're always plenty friendly and willing to chat about what's going on.:-)
buddygr53 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Well maybe this was not a guide. But if it was i had no problem with him saying that. It takes his time to find out the info so his time is worth something. And i am sure all are not that way
