Brian Sloss Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 What tragedy on the trail? I have not heard anything about this... www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
LarrySTL Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I am guessing that Snap means this http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/illinois/anniversary-gift-turns-into-fatal-hike-for-father-two-sons/article_3083ef0f-ed8c-562a-ac13-32875df04085.html http://intervenehere.com
Al Agnew Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Yes, a real tragedy, brought on by a series of errors where probably if only one of the errors hadn't happened they would have been okay.
patfish Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 In no way do I mean to diminish this event, but why with all the technology available were they not better prepared? Even if they had just listened to local radio they would have known it was probably going to rain and the temp was supposed to drop drastically. I was fishing in STL that day and it was ok with jeans and LS tshirt in the morning but by 10am I went back to the truck to don my insulated overalls and a hoodie. Its January, take nothing for granted. I don't get it.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 In no way do I mean to diminish this event, but why with all the technology available were they not better prepared? I agree patfish. The father was no amateur, but broke all the rules. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
BredMan Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Very tragic and heart-breaking. I cannot possibly imagine what it was like for that father and those two boys. The answer to many 'why' questions will never be known. My prayers go out to the family.
ness Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Saw this earlier. Hard to know just what happened, but I can see heading out on a nice day for a short hike, getting crossed up then surprised by the weather. No cell, no GPS, nobody missing you until after dark. Tough situation. Sad. I think there are two more kids and mom left. John
exiledguide Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 The news tonight mentioned he had turned down a ride back. I got a bad feeling about this one.
gotmuddy Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I could not imagine the pain the mother is going through, and pray I never do. Things like this are part of the reason I over prepare for everything I do, and overpack. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
