podum Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 Ness, looking for trout. I've fished Taney, the Niangua, Bennett, Capps and Hickory. I don't really care if I go to a new place this time or not. I posed the question to see if any of the vets thought a lot of a place I hadn't been. If so, I'd consider trying something new. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
podum Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 Ducky, that sounds like a great day. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I haven't seen Beaver lately, but you can run up Swan, literally. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Al Agnew Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Trout...for the best overall experience as far as I'm concerned--wild river, great scenery, AND good fishing, it would have to be one of these three; Current, North Fork, or Eleven Point. If you're wading, definitely the Current at Baptist Camp. Other places may or may not have better fishing, but the combination of a gorgeous river and plenty of fish, that's where I'd go. But if you had the cash and wanted a different experience, I'd hire Justin Spencer of Brian Wise on the North Fork, or Brian Sloss on the Eleven Point for a guided float trip. That's the closest you'll come in Missouri to a true wild river trout experience. (Or if it was me, I'd just take or rent a canoe and do a short float on my own on either of those two rivers, stopping at every good looking spot to fish.) Of course, that's just me. I don't care in the least to fish in any of the trout parks, and as good as the fishing can be on Taneycomo, it's a lake and a very artificial-looking setting, which turns me off to some extent.
podum Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Thanks Al. I've done the eleven point. It's awesome. Been thinking about a guided trip on the EP or the NFOW. Calls will be made. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
ness Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Didn't see Current River on your list -- that's great place to wade fish for trout. Or canoe. Pretty easy to get to from KC also. Nfow is great but requires a boat of some sort and it's farther. John
drew03cmc Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I would vote for Roaring River from the horn till 10, driving up to Crane until about two or so, fishing below town, then driving over to Capps Creek on your way home. Andy
podum Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 I've thought about just that rotation drew. Never been to Crane and I need to cross that one off. I really like Capps in the winter. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
Ham Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 NFOW. No doubt. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
drew03cmc Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I've thought about just that rotation drew. Never been to Crane and I need to cross that one off. I really like Capps in the winter. Crane will humble you. I caught three trout my first trip there and thought I did well, so enjoy the solitude. Andy
