kjackson Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I lost one of the side guide boards on my trailer, and I was thinking about using some Trex/plastic decking to replace the 2x4 instead of buying the board, wrapping in carpet that I have to buy and then doing the same thing again in five years or so. Has anyone used the plastic stuff? If so, how did it work?
fishinwrench Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Probably be ok for a guide but I wouldn't use it for bunks unless your supports are fairly close together.
Members momule Posted October 14, 2015 Members Posted October 14, 2015 Friend of mine uses Trek and has had absolutely no trouble. I use bunk boards made of polyplastic (recycled milk cartons) and they are very strong, very slippery, and permanent. The only potential downside is that it is almost possible to push a boat off a trailer with one hand on a flat surface using those boards. The Trek product has the same tendency. The important thing to remember is to not unhook the winch unless you are totally ready to have the boat off the trailer. I've been using boat trailers all my life and between those bunks, led lights, and bearing buddies my trailering is absolutely trouble free. grizwilson 1 Always live by running water...it gives you a means of escape.
DChance Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 No way I would do that. You can't space joists any more than 16 inches on center or they sag. Not near strong enough support. Daryk Campbell Sr and Ham 2
Ham Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Might be ok for side guide ons. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members momule Posted February 25, 2016 Members Posted February 25, 2016 Been using these manufactured 2X4's for over 6 months now with no issues. There is no bowing or sag and with 4 bunks I'm finding the hull is supported very well. I'd do it again without question. Boat is currently out at Troutt's getting some work done but when I get it back I'll take some pictures and post. Check out this site for the product I'm using: www.ultimatebunkboards.com Pricey but permanent. Always live by running water...it gives you a means of escape.
