Hot Bite Vs. No Bite

It's interesting how, especially late winter, just when you think there isn't a fish in the lake biting, you meet up with some guys who just smoked them, both in numbers and size.

And, from the opposite side of the equation, when you've had a fairly good day, you meet up with friends on the water who have netted a "0", let them know that in fact there is a bite going on and, with that bit of inspiration, they turn their day around with some solid fish.

Just keeps me always thinking that, "They're biting somewhere. Find them and get a bait in front of their nose."

I'm doing a lot of head scratching lately trying to figure these slimey green critters out. Even the top pros have tough days, it's interesting when the FLW comes to Beaver that some of the guys who fish that tourney are local and you'd think they'd do well in the tourney, but some of them struggle. But you fish enough and you'll have your day when every thing you do is right. I love those days!

I have made the mistake of spot fishing my home lakes enough. I try to aproach each day like its the first time I've seen the water let the fish guide me to the window that is open for that day. Doesn't matter if that window is flipping bushes or spooning points. Obviously I use they're seasonal movements as a starting point and I go by feel from there. I've been up at baxter for the last three weekends and I've seen the same boat go back in a pocket fish the same 5 tree's with a a-rig, spoon a dock or two and drive off. Meanwhile I've been catching fish off stuff that no one else will fish. The guy who sticks to what he knows will have his days but the guy who fishes by the seat of his pants while he's out there makes each day his day. I hate being at weigh in and hearing the same tired lines of "I needed the wind" or "the rain hurt my bite" just excuses of why the angler couldn't adjust to the conditions.

Well put. Lot of fish in the places that look ugly, all year long. Sometimes have to fish ugly to catch them too.

That is why we all like to fish so much...everyday is a new day to figure out a puzzle. I fished 3 days last week and I swear they were on different stuff each day...2 of the 3 days were excellent though. The only thing consistent for me is I can't catch a fish by a tree to save my life

Again more of the crazyness. Tfsh, the only place that I can catch them the last few days has been on pole timber. Had 8 solid keepers and 1 short yesterday after a slow start. Surface temps at Baxter when I started was 43.9. I fished long enough to see it get to close to 47, and that is when I started getting bit on the pole timber. Very nice bite with a solid bag. Not monsters, but quality 3 pound LM. Just goes to show, they are always biting somewhere.

The 3 locations I caught those fish on, I had fished them earlier in the morning with no bites. Was really going to the house and saw a very nice ripple going thru the tops of the timber and said "What the Heck, I'll stop for just a minute." First cast bang! Hour and a half later I had that nice bag.
