Wayne SW/MO Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Duck, my thoughts exactly. I respooled one of my spinning reels yesterday and over filled it and it just fell of the reel freely. I stripped 20 yards or so off and it was fine. Over spooling is very bad. My SOP when I refill a spool is to strip as much as I can across the yard, rewind it, then put it in hot tap water for about a minute so that it sets to the spool configuration. This, plus closing the bail manually has cut my problems to near zero. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Guest Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Suffix Elite or Gamma Co-polymer. I personally hate florocarbon. Its brittle, its not abrasion resistant, and it tends to curl. Lots of break offs with floro. This is just my opinion based on experience. I would rather buy a 1000 yard spool of co-polymer vs 200yard spool of floro..
ozarkgunner Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Surprised I haven't heard any mention of Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Best of both worlds with mono/fluoro, yet it is soft and supple with low memory and stuff is STRONG. Gets my vote. Plus one Angler At Law
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I've used, and still have some, Yo-Zuri, but P-line CX Premium is also a hybrid and beats Yo Zuri. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
exiledguide Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I use hivis XL on spinning for grubs worms etc. on the bottom and xl green for cranks spinner baits and Top water on my spinning reels Suffix Performnce 10/4 braid for crappie and bluegill at Truman, Reelfoot or Lake Conway in Arkansas where the water is not very clear.
abkeenan Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I've used, and still have some, Yo-Zuri, but P-line CX Premium is also a hybrid and beats Yo Zuri. I also have used both P-Line Fluoroclear and Yo-zuri Hybrid and I disagree. I think the memory is less on Yo-Zuri and knot holding/strength properties are better as well on the Yo-Zuri. But will vouch for both as incredibly strong lines. I have pulled my boat towards the snag without breaking and I use 8lb line on my spinning gear. Can't really go wrong with either IMO as both lines are at the top of my list for spinning gear applications.
*T* Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 From the Berkley web page about Sensation Mono: "Ultra strong and thin. Our highest strength-per-diameter mono, wet or dry. Super sensitive to detect light bites. Low memory for outstanding castability and handling. Maximum knot strength for more fish-fighting power." I'd have to agree with them. Been using this for many years now and have not found a reason to change. Haven't tried many of the lines you all are mentioning here, just have had vg success with Sensation. Strength per diameter is key factor. If you say the line you are using is suppose to be 8# but it's so strong that it's like 12#, well, it's (really) 12# and you are losing out on handling characteristics you might have with real 8#. Interesting discussion though. "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
Ham Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 There used to the a Berkley Sensithin That I liked, but it got dced. I eonder how close the Sensation is to the former Sensithin? I wish some of the Yo-Zuri Hybrid users had compared it to same strength P-line CX premium. I'm curious about it, but not enough to go buy some Yozuri. Tectan is the skinniest line per pound out there, but it had crap for abrasion resistance. I how it so wimpy that I have NO used for it at all. Not for trout or bluegill or anything. ozarkgunner Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I have bulk spools of both and go with the yo zuri. I've used vanish segar etc and went to a hybrid two years ago. Good line for the money on the bulk spool and great all around line. Who breaks off on fish on ten lb. anyways? Unless there is a bad knot 10lb hybrid will hold any bass in the ozarks. A good reel will school an ozark bass on ten lb. heck I haven't lost one on 8lb in a long time! Angler At Law

I'll keep that in mind if I get unhappy with my CX Premium. I'm of the opinion that a fish rarely breaks the fisherman off. I think the fisherman usually breaks the fish off. However, there is a lot more to line selection than just worrying about the strength of the fish being sought. Anyone throwing DD22's on 6 pound? Anybody throwing A rigs on 10 lb? Spro Bronzeye frogs on 8 lb? Pike and chain pickerel will bite right thru mono. I've had them bite thru 20 pound mono without any problem at all. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future.
