Today went down to Tecumseh to catch some fish for our fish fry this Sat. Happily a good spot was open when I got there. I stupidly dropped my stringer on the ground about 10 yards down from the honey hole. I waded out, found the hole and quickly hooked and lost a fish. Next cast caught and landed a nice white (purple/yellow clouser). Walked up to grab my stringer and laid flyrod at waters edge where I had caught the fish. As I was locating my stringer another flyfisherman who had been 30-40 yards downstream walked up. We visited as I strung my fish and he walked by me toward my rod, I told him to watch out and not step on my rod and he said that he saw it. He then proceeded to go into the water and wade out right at my rod. As some of you know 10 feet can make all the difference, and for the next 30 minutes I politely watched him catch fish after fish while I caught 2 more, I realized this guy wasn't going anywhere and so I left. At the time it was a little frustrating, but I've caught enough fish that it wasn't that big a deal. It just makes me wonder what this guy was thinking, he was a fellow fly fisherman who had obviously seen me hook two fish in my first few casts, people line up down this shoreline pretty regularly, but I've never had my spot taken like that before, unless it was one of my buddies.

I reckon he believes in spreading the wealth. And I would have asked him politely to move, and if he didn't, I would have tried to explain to him proper fishing ethics, and if that didn't move him I would have stood on the bank and thrown rocks where he was casting. 20 years ago, it would have been water fighting. Seriously, tough call, but more and more people amaze me with disrespect to others.

I may have had to call him out on it just to hear what he would say in his defense. Then maybe next time he would think twice. But probably not seeing how he was using a fly rod.

We all know what kind of people use those things.

sorry Justin, I was editing my post to add some more when you responded. It happens to me more and more in bass fishing on lakes. I was raised to never fish a bank someone else is fishing, much less a single spot.

I was kind of taken off guard and was giving him the benefit of the doubt until he got on his cell and called his buddies in, they weren't catching either once they arrived though because the spot was so small. As a local businessman I have to bite my tongue a little more than I would like to and try to be happy this guy had a good day, I'll go get em' tomorrow.

You should have waded in right next to him, given him a little pinch on the butt, and asked him if he was looking for a boyfriend. More than likely it would spook him and he would take off, only problem would be if he said yes, then you'd have to figure a way out.

But seriously, you'll run into jackasses out there whether it's a river or lake, best thing to do, as you did, is just walk off and let them have their fun.

People like that have to be unconscious, because someone in a conscious state of mind could not possibly be that stupid, or rude, or unknowing. I see it on a daily basis at the trout parks and tcomo, but rarely say anything anymore. I bleed alot easier than I use to in my younger days. I once took the hat off a fellow with a well placed fly and split shot. He knew he was wrong and never said a word as he raced downstream to catch up with the hat.

See! That's what y'all get for crowing online about your white bass fishing success so much.

He prolly sat at home chillin', munching on frito chili pies and sippin' brew every day until he saw all those glowing reports from you guys that did all the footwork.

LMAO! :)

It's definately never a secret down there, boats and people everywhere. Everyone watches each other to find out the good spots, but usually they wait until you leave to take your hole. I guess if you come from far away to fish one day you gotta do what you gotta do, had he come up while I was catching fish and struck up a conversation I gladly would have alternated spots after each fish, but he

figured out a better way.
