dtrs5kprs Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Somewhere along the line I probably need to get with Phil and Bill about an "official" Ned Rig thread, but I am lazy when I can be. Have talked about the little rig with a lot of folks, and frequently get this..."I think I can just use up some Senkos/Dingers/Stik-O's....". I understand. I started the same way, with just a few bags of the Zman, and was very hesitant to try those. The super plastics were kind of gimmicky when they first came out, or at least had that appearance. There were color and shape issues, as well as some misunderstanding of what role it can play. Those days are long gone. The elaztech baits made by Zman for their line, and for Strike King, are extremely practical for many applications. Link below shows just one of the hidden benefits of running these baits on the little rig. For a while, several of us who fish this way have speculated, and on occasion observed, the elaztech baits getting stuck in the teeth of bass. Until this trip I had not been able to document this effect. It makes clear another way these baits translate into more felt bites, and more hooked bass. It is not action filled, and the fish is small, but it demonstrates a key aspect of this style of fishing. This happens especially with older, well loved baits. Don't change bodies until they absolutely wear out or fall off. Older = better with the elaztech. You want them so old they are soaking up water to the point you can squeeze it out like a sponge.
abkeenan Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Good stuff Dave. You sure are costing me a lot of money the last couple of days!

crazy4fishin Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 You are right about the type of plastics - I started using what I had in the boat and then switched to the Zman and there is a difference in fish catching. These things last forever and you are right when you say the worse they are the better they fish. C4F Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
abkeenan Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Did you make the other purchase? No I was just kidding. My wife would kill me if I spend another nickel on fishing gear/tackle. But when time comes and it is allowed I may take the plunge.
