jpb2187 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Well I stopped by Unger Park today... Actually I went to Lone Elk Park first, but realized you have to make reservations to fish. So on the way home I stopped by Unger Park to check it out. I have fished at Preslar and Simpson, but I had not been to Unger yet. Got there at about 8:30 am. Started out with a weightless fluke, but with all the brush quickly realized I'd be better off with something else. Switched to a wave worm swim bug. On the first cast, near some downed trees to the left hand side of the where the River flows in I saw the line start moving. Set the hook and pulled out this bad boy (well girl i guess actually). Belly looked like it still had eggs. Didn't have a scale but she was somewhere between 4-5 lbs. Didn't catch anything else the rest of the day besides some little small LMs on a weightless senko. Had some more bites on the swim bug, but couldn't hook up. Sorry for the picture quality, i left the good camera in the car.
moguy1973 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Nice... I never found Unger to have much accessibility from the bank, but it looks like you did...Wouldn't have thought a fish like that lived in that lake... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Haris122 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Sweet. I've been to Unger heaps of times and yet only thing I ever caught there was 1 nice size Crappie.
Mitch f Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Nice fish, always makes you come back for more. Extra man points for pulling a hog out of heavily pressured local water! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Smalliebigs Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Sweet fish JP....Unger is tough as Mitch said.....kudos brother, not many very good fisherman come away with a catch like that from that lake but, they are in there. Thanks for posting and post some more urban trips
moguy1973 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I went out there today in my kayak. I didn't know it had that many trees to fish all around the edge of it. No bites for me on a jig though. Saw lots of those blasted Asian carp in there though. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Haris122 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Yeah water's still seems high from the flooding. I know usually it doesn't reach that far up into the treeline.
moguy1973 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Yeah water's still seems high from the flooding. I know usually it doesn't reach that far up into the treeline. I've actually seen it higher than it is right now. I've seen it where you can't walk around on the shore because the water is up in the trees all the way around... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Haris122 Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I think last summer I saw someone literally wade from where that little "peninsula" juts out when the water is at normal levels, to the island in the middle of the lake. Didn't seem more than 4 feet deep if that, the entire time.
moguy1973 Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 The depth finder on my kayak showed the deepest parts right now are about 13' -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
