Guest Brian B. Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 We have been catching nice size schooling bass in 65 foot of water- topwater of course... But it's just weird to be chunkin' a senko in 65 ft LOL... (Illinois strip mines) Avg size has been really good for schoolies too- !Man! That's fun! I hate to concede this, as I am a self described Zoom Super Fluke whisperer , but I find myself reaching past the fluke bag for the senkos more and more, there really is just som much they do- they are the ULTIMATE "if I could only have one survival artificial bait" Sigh..., the Super Fluke has been moves to the on deck spot vs "at bat"...
John Andrews Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 Well I been away from Springfield lake now for two weeks. This week however I plan on getting some afterwork bassin in. I have a spot on my wall ready to hang that freshly mounted bass I call Dr. Evil.( IF I EVER CATCH HIM) I am planning on buying a go pro camera and posting some of these hard hitting top water strikes on youtube. I'll keep ya posted. HAPPY FISHIN EVERYONE
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I was down there on Saturday caught 1 15 incher on top and missed a couple others and a 16 incher on a jig. The Lillie's sure have gotten thick.
John Andrews Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 just the way I like 'em. i found a good method of getting those bass to come out and play. This time last year I was bringing a bass in about every 10 casts. for me a better spot has been up where the "Y" comes together. The grass just off the point of that Y has been holding some nice fish. texas rig a zoom red with blue sparkle NO WEIGHT, let it fall natural short jigs every few seconds. Of course ya got to get there early before the people with motors drive them away. I have had people motor past within a few feet of me????? I know i will start a real crap storm here but that lake should be NO MOTORS ALLOWED. My opinion anyhow
John Andrews Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Tomorrow the hunt for that big ol bass "Dr. Evil" continues. I will be one the lake before dawn. Hope everyone can get a line wet this weekend, Good luck to you all. I'll report tomorrow
