That same thing happened to my buddy's dad.

He retired last year and died one month later of an unexpected illness. Very sad.

Hug your family and tell them how much you love them. you never know what days your last.

I'm retired military...Unless your a general that just means you get another job. However, it is pretty amazing how many retirees die shortly after leaving the military.

Just enroll in grad school, it's the perfect blend between an 8-5 and being in high school! Geez, what to do tomorrow? Go out and do research which includes swimming around looking at darters, or take the day off to go fishing? Tough decision.

Had a fellow in our church retire on friday, happy as a clam at sunday service. Died a couple hours after church that day. Bad part was he did not understand his pension plan and took the highest payout which means his wife got nothing and he never lived to collect. That was in the day you could do that without spousal consent.

Retired in jan 2012. My youngest ask me if I missed working like I had done for the past 38 yrs? I said "not in the least, if I had know it was this easy, I would have done it in 2011." I do alot of fishing, but not much catching these days. Love every minute of it.

Lost my father last Labor day weekend...He retired in 1984 after 32 years as a Metrologist at McDonnell Douglas. That's almost 30 years of retirement, He definitely beat the odds. When he retired, the average was 13 paychecks before you died. If you do the math that's over 345 paychecks. Who knew I would end up being a metrologist too! I guess it's DNA

My dad retired a few years ago after many years of service at a Blue Cross in Little Rock. He was an accountant and CPA, and the job he retired from after climbing the ladder no longer resembled accounting. After retiring for about a month, he went back to work for Blue Cross in the same position he started in decades earlier because he missed it. Then he went to work for BKD doing tax returns. Then he decided he'd go to law school. He has a year of law school left and he's not sure what he'll do when he gets out, but it won't resemble "retirement" I'm guessing.

We lost my dad ten years ago at 91. He worked until he was 78 and only retired when he could not get a driver's license. After he retired the yard at the family home never looked better. He did not hunt or fish but liked to piddle around and for some reason he and mom got into bingo. Whenever he won some $$ at the church game you would have thought he got a big bonus for working. good memories for sure for a dad who was a great example for all of my brother and me.

I am 63 and have retired once already. I left the practice of law after 25 years because it was killing my spirit. I am now 11 years completed in my second profession and still love it. In between I took some time and we moved to live on the lake here. I will continue until it no longer is fun. I must admit I enjoy the weeks off in the summer.
