Greasy B Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Great fish, being a weekend warrior isn’t so bad especially when you have friends. Big fish, tiny creek, don’t reports like this reinforce our constant assertion that backward regulations, angling pressure and catch and keep fishing have decimated the size structure in our larger rivers. Over the course of a typical season my largest Smallies generally come from the smallest waters I fish. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Al Agnew Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Yep, it's long gotten to where I only fish the bigger rivers in the late fall and winter, when the fish either leave the smaller creeks or hole up and go dormant. It hurts to fish the middle Meramec in the summer these days, and catch so much fewer fish than I once did 30 years ago. St. Clair to Pacific was spectacular smallmouth fishing back then, and Onondaga to Meramec Park was just as good. I caught 18-20 inch fish every time I went, and I didn't know nearly as much about catching big ones as I do now. I've got the itch to go explore some creeks!
