merc1997 Bo Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 that is a real whopping sack of brownies!!! kind of day that keeps you coming back. bo
merc1997 Bo Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 This is a pretty liberal and informative forum, but that is pretty much asking how much money he has in the bank. A couple of years ago there was some real trouble on the Bull Shoals forum about giving up location and way to much hard earned information. With the pattern described I will guarantee you it was very hard earned with lots of jigs lost. Don't care who you are or what jig you use, you throw it into deep tree tops you will lose plenty, at 2 bucks a pop with the trailers. He more than earned and paid for those fish taking risks. A very good pattern has been posted. Use that and try the locations you mentioned, looking for that type of cover and see how you fare. You get bit and it means you really discovered the same pattern only in a perhaps different location. Something to hang your hat onto. Wishing you the best and good Luck i noticed the comment about losing plenty of jigs fishing the submerged timber. i have fished with the same jig for more than a month most of the time before losing it. i have on several occasions fished an entire week at falcon with the same jig and that is all i fished with all week. had to replace the skirt a few times because it got ate off. i remember way, way back when i needed at least a dozen jigs to fish a night tournament, but there has been a drastic improvement in jigs, in fact, by a local company. better hookups, and very hard to ever hang up. bo This is a pretty liberal and informative forum, but that is pretty much asking how much money he has in the bank. Bill Babler Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Bo, that is a pure experience type deal. It sounds like that type of fishing is something you do and are really good at. Even with the quality of the jigs we have today, it is a little harder for most of us. I can work the big worm thru the trees better than the jig as I can get the texas rig hook and weight pegged and buried in the worm. I still can be a little bouncy and burry that jig in a limb if I'm not concentrating pretty hard on it and I fish a lot. No way I can fish everyday throwing a jig into trees and not losing one for 30 days. I'm going to loose some everyday, and you notice I said some and not one. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Lvn2Fish Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 Yeah you loose some jigs . I think I lost three that day . One on a fish that broke me the other two on empty hook sets . That's the worst when you swing and miss in a tree it's gone . I found a rod with a fast tip will really help you work it through the limbs . Going after them again tomorrow to shoot some product video for a new bait company I'm working with. Ill post the video. Hopefully another blow out. But this lake can turn on you on a dime
ryan Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I go through a few every trip. Keeps fin and feather in business. Lots of chompers 3/4 oz FB jigs are buried all over Tablerock because of me. Have a feeling I'm not the only one.
abkeenan Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Its funny how much fisherman spend on rods, reels, line, gas, boats, tricking out the boat, electronics, lodging, etc and usually have no problem doing so.....but when it comes to losing an $8 cranker/$11 jerkbait/$3 jig its like someone kicked you in the gut. I am not even talking about your "lucky" lure that has boated you tons of fish and if you lose it ruins your day. I am as guilty as anyone with this warped mentality. I spend more on snacks, power ball tickets and scratch offs at Twin Island on my way down to TR than I do on the amount of lost tackle for an entire weekend yet if I lose 3 jigs in a day it what a catastrophe! On a side note very nice report and good for you figuring out a pattern for some NICE fish. Even more kudos for giving up that pattern to the forum.
tapout Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I started making my own jigs several years back so I wouldn't sweat loosing them. It costs me about 80 cents a jig. It's fun and kind of a pride thing catching them on your own creation. Sometimes one lasts a whole day but usually I lose several and sometimes at night, I lose alot. Thanks for the information. I'm am definately going to get out and try the tree top thing. My DS just isn't cutting it. I caught lots of LM under docks this week on the DS around Kennel branch. Suprised me a little as usually I'm catching K's off docks this time of year. Fished every day so far this week and caught a 3+ LM under walkway each day but otherwise just a few keeper K's and mostly dinks. Nothing to brag about just a little different than my usual and thought I'd share. I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar
Quillback Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 The thing I don't like about breaking off is that I have to stop and retie. I hate taking time out to stop and do something besides working my bait. I fish "hard" up until the time I leave.
riverfish Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 i stop and retie often because you never know when that "good one" or personal best is gonna bite and i surely don't want to lose her because i was lazy and been dragging my jig through the rocks for the last hour and had my line all frayed up
Quillback Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Yep, I'm always checking for frayed line and retying when necessary.
