ColdWaterFshr Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Color me skeptical, Batman. Indeed, a nice fish. Coloring and body structure just doesn't look like any Big River beast I've caught though. I'm gonna go ahead and throw the BS flag. This one came out of of one of the Great Lakes me thinks. PD
Members P_L Posted July 15, 2013 Members Posted July 15, 2013 never fished the big river but it looks like a waterfall behind the guy, are there any waterfalls on the big? kinda looks like a feeder creek but im ignorant. The average human head is 9 inches tall. If you turn his head on its side and factor in his arms being a few inches outstreched but not totally stretched its still well over 20 inches without pinching the tail. I hope his doctor has diagnosed his health problems or else he is a dead man walking. his fingers are clubbed so it is something serious, might want to let him know. “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” -Warren Buffett
Quillback Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 quick follow-up: the fish was never measured, the 24 was an "estimate". Sounds like the estimates I do when I catch a nice fish. Always add a few inches and a couple of pounds when estimating.
ollie Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I'm going with the 20" maximum on this one. Just doesn't look big enough to be 24". Bet he told everyone he knew it was that big and weighted at least 7 pounds! lol "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

I hadn't even noticed that somehow, i feel pretty stupid. I guess because I was told it was caught above a certain place, I never realized that the pic looks like it might have actually taken immediately below and at said place. I was given so much misinformation about this whole thing, I don't really care to go back and edit the spot out of the pic
Al Agnew Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Yep, I was just looking at the length of the fish before. That definitely looks like a waterfall in the background, along with maybe the side of a building. Could possibly be below one of the mill dams on lower Big River. But the fish doesn't look like any Big River smallie I've ever seen...too fat and pot-bellied. Coloration isn't really typical, either, even if the fish had been on a stringer for a while. I'd say no more than a 40% chance the fish came from Big River, and no more than a 10% chance that it was over 21 inches.
Gavin Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 It doesn't look like a typical Big River fish...Way too fat...still a nice catch...20-21" would be my guess.
cnr Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Yep. Nice fish...wherever it was caught. Wrong markings for one of our streams. I don't think I have ever seen that coloration here.
405z06 Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 Reminds of an average little Big River smallie I caught and took a pic of last Summer. When I got home I did a little doctoring to it and sent it to another fisherman friend. I'm not very good at Photoshop, but I knew it would be viewed on a phone, so it would probably work. Of course, I would never pass this off as real, and I let him in on my little joke
MOsmallies Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Hahaha Not bad... I would have believed that second pic and said what a beast
