rps Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I was surprised this morning. I arrived at the marina at 5:10. One boat had launched, another was backing to the water. I assumed this was a bad sign. Especially when a third boat pulled into line to launch. I wheeled my gear down to the boat and was gone before boats two and three cleared the buoys. I caught 4 or 5 small bass on a very early topwater bite that stopped almost before it started. In the mean time I had marked some shad schools at the channel break. I motored downstream to a soup bowl shaped inside bend flat. In the middle of the bowl the water is 32 - 33 feet deep. On the channel rim the bottom is 25 feet deep. I began dragging a bait roller crawler behind a Mack's smile blade and a bead. Before 1:00 PM, I caught 9 walleye and 20 plus spotted bass off the outside rim of the bowl. The fish were 25 to 28 feet deep and hanging in places where sunken timber or rocks broke up the edge. The bass were 12 to 17 inches and the walleye were 15 to 21 inches (3 keepers). If a person wanted to fish artificials, a c-rig with a Keitech Swing Impact would get bit.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Sounds like a good morning and finished off with a good dinner. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
bfishn Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Good stuff, thank you. Last time I was there, they weren't. I can't dance like I used to.
merc1997 Bo Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 the last time that i knew, the length limit on walleye was 18 inches. and, i think that applies up into arkansas on table rock. if that has changed, i am unaware of it. bo
jpb2187 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I think he is aware of that. All he was saying is that he caught 9 walleye - 3 of which were over 18 in., but the other 6 were not. All the fished ranged from 15- 21 inches.
Bill Babler Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 That is exactly the way that I read the post. Proof was in the pudding with the 3 nice quality keepers photographed for posterity http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Champ188 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Nice report, rps. Glad you had a good day and came home with some meat.
rps Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 Bo, I post under the same name on walleye central and the Missouri walleye forum. Those forums have passionate threads about keeping and releasing walleye that are as interesting as those I see on this forum about trout and small mouth bass. I adhere to the daily limit and possession limit for walleye. I C and R all bass.
