Members go4ducks2 Posted July 20, 2013 Members Posted July 20, 2013 Redneck Tarpon that is.....went down and put in at St. Clair Hwy30 ramp went up river and started out catching a few 12" smallies on a tiny torpedo ultra light 4lb test...then this thing came up and engulfed the torpedo like a shark......one hour and fifteen minutes later got my torpedo back.
Haris122 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 darn. One hour and fifteen minutes. That's a serious fight.
Old plug Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 That lookalike a flying carp to me. I guess they are up in the that river as well.
Members go4ducks2 Posted July 20, 2013 Author Members Posted July 20, 2013 I've seen the flying carp and this its not, they are flatter through the middle, this thing was more round through the middle....so it must be a bighead carp.......me being the catch and release kinda guy I am let it go not really thinking that it is an invasive species and should have destroyed it......lesson learned.
Old plug Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I do not know what it is for sure.maybe it is a big head carp I think I recall seeing pictures of them.
fishinwrench Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I think you might have tossed away a world record Chub. Naw, that's a Grassie.
Old plug Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I was kind if hoping you would see this subject I thought sure you would know. . Isn't there some breed of Asian carp that looks like that. Could it be a grass carp. I know I have seen a picture of this thing but do not know what the hell it is.
Mitch f Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I caught a 6 pound regular carp on a wiggle wart a couple of years ago. but... here is what an Asian carp looks like, my father in law caught it at Chain of Rocks this Spring "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
