Stump bumper Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Wife and kid?????? Oh feel terrible now. For the wife and kid that is. Sounds like they definitely found him and discovered what happened. This is terrible. People that set out trot lines need to remove them when done. It makes the rest of us look bad. I've snagged quite a few over the years but from a boat. Poor guy was doing what he enjoyed and someone's ignorance/neglect cost him his life. It was an accident but still..... If you see a trout line in daylight hours cut it and get it out of the water, unmarked limb lines cut and take with you. This is not hurting someones fishing it is helping people survive. Jugs floating around in the middle of the day, they are lost and need to be removed. Never Dive alone and learn to act as a team or die alone it is not a safe sport but then again what is, bass fishing along side drunk teens in wake boats?
Feathers and Fins Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Diving is a very safe sport. Unless a Bull wants what you just speared https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
kjackson Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 According to 5newsonline, a body has been recovered in the cove where the diver disappeared. The suit, weight belt and camera found with the body are the same as the one the missing diver had with him. An autopsy will determine the identity. The news item said that the body was recovered in 54 feet of water and was not entangled in anything. In other Beaver Lake news, another person drowned in the "party cove" wherever that is...
Quillback Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Glad to hear they found him. I did not realize he was wearing a weight belt, I believe he was "free diving" - without tanks. I heard about that other drowning also, it's a shame for sure. Beaver can be a killer, seems there's 4 or 5 drowned every summer.
JohnF52 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Wonder when the knee jerkers will close all lakes to boating and swimming to protect us from ourselves?
Feathers and Fins Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Lets hope never, I was talking to my dad the other night and he was telling me of all the new rules on the lakes back in Cali. Like; Sunrise to Sunset only for boats, Boat inspections for Mussels ( 1 drop of water and your boat will not be admitted that day including "Dew" ) speed limits on the lakes reduced and more and more fees. I swear the more he tells me the more I shake my head at that nutsy state. They have to protect everyone from themselves and charge everyone out the wazzo so they can protect them. Reminds me of parents who over protect their kids to the point they cant be kids. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Stump bumper Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Yea free diving with a weight belt in a lake you have not been to very much and 100 yards away from his buddy....what could go wrong...."it's a safe sport"....no matter how you do it? Driving a car is safe, checking your email is safe but put the two together and it might get risky...just saying. If anyone swims from my boat I stay on the boat with a ring and rope and my life jacket on and if I HAVE to get in the water when I am alone it is with a life jacket. But I guess there is nothing to learn here, people do what they want, when they want to do it and most of the time blame the government when they get hurt. In my day we went to summer camps, learned to swim a mile before being turned loose and had weeks of training in water rescue before getting behind the wheel of a boat or getting canoe even. Today you make a 13 year old walk a mile and it is child abuse. You can't teach rules like "never swim alone" because it is against someone's beliefs. I don't believe in more laws and more regulations but there is never too much training and that is what we are missing but guess what it is hard and hurts so lets not do it.
JohnF52 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Yes, if adults want to do something stupid, let them do it as long as they are not endangering others. I find it unbelievable that some people are so ignorant of apparent dangers.
Feathers and Fins Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Guys keep in mind this was not an inexperienced diver by any means he was according to reports a Nationally ranked diver, we will never know what happened for certain but logic would say something very bad and unexpected would be a good bet. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
