Jason R. Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I've been using balsa divers like this one with success. Not as fun as a popper though. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Flysmallie Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I don't know Jason, I find the divers to be a lot of fun. I like it.
Jason R. Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I don't know Jason, I find the divers to be a lot of fun. I like it. I only say that because you don't get as many "explosive" hits. Lots of the hits are just under the surface. This one is a size 2 but the size 6 has caught more basses for me. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Flysmallie Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I only say that because you don't get as many "explosive" hits. Yep, that is correct. You ever skated a gurgler? It doesn't get any more explosive than that.
mic Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Man... I sure would like to try one of those. Yep, that is correct. You ever skated a gurgler? It doesn't get any more explosive than that.
Flysmallie Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Man... I sure would like to try one of those. Yes I know. I haven't been very good lately. I'll get ya taken care of this week.
Gavin Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 You all tie some great stuff......as for the prop bait...My buddy Greg Coffey developed one...Not the easiest thing to cast...but it can be great at times...here's a pic of his Coffey Grinder plus one of my own creations. Greg turns the foam on a dremel tool then he cuts a slit end to end...The hook is lashed to a spinner form that is shaped like an elongated Z.
BilletHead Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 Gavin,Yes that is the one I remember you speaking of. Thanks for posting it again. Pretty neat. Like the block head popper too. I finished up another couple of carved bodies yesterday. Got two more in progress today. Doing this has kind of got under my skin like I am possessed by the balsa beast. I thank you all for your comments and helpfulness on this topic. Jason I remember you making the balsa wiggle bodies. Neat, look cool too. I just started doing the foam cylinder wiggle minnow. That is another topic in its self. I made some, painted and epoxied. Caught fish on them also. Made a cutter out of an old aluminum arrow shaft to cut foam. Biggest I had left was a 2216. Does anyone have any bigger than that laying around? I would be interested in a section if you have. I am an antique and go back to the aluminum shafts and progressed to cedar, douglas fir and pine shafting. Now that my shoulder is going south I may have to resort to a compound and carbons. Flysmallie Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Get a set of these brass cork cutters. You have to sharpen them but they work really well. bs1827 1
