Members Brownie Whisperer Posted August 1, 2013 Members Posted August 1, 2013 My Grandmother would give bleach baths to us kids...it was about a coffee cup to a tub of about 8 to 10 inches of water, i have since made 50/50 solutions with water and bleach, and reubbed down with a paper towl, and it works really well.
jdmidwest Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 When I was a kid, there was a nail polish like substance that was supposed to suffocate the little critters. Trouble was, you felt a little crusty after a good infestion. There was campofoneqe too that relieved the itch. Don't know if they even make that any more. On The Fly 6 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I've put clear fingernail polish on my bites. Suppose to suffocate them, plus it keeps you from scratching. Terrierman Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Chiggers are already gone by the time you start to itch. The itching is a reaction to their saliva which dissolves a little bit of your skin for them to feed on. Itching tick bites are also reaction to tick saliva.
skeeter Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Walgreen's carries a product back in their first aid section by the band-aids called "Chiggarrid" that comes in a very small, dark brown glass container. You usually have to search for it pretty hard. It's a liquid plastic containing camphor that you dab on each bite and wait a couple of minutes until it dries and it relieves the itch for about 24 hours and keeps infection from setting in if you have vigorously scratched the bite. If you cannont find the Chiggarrid, one of the liquid bandages found in the same department like "New Skin", that is also a liquid plastic coating, is almost as effective. Fels Naptha was a great poison ivy preventer but never used it for dratted chiggers. We find it sometimes at Wally World.
jpb2187 Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 Well jpb, which remedy worked? Well... Night 1 - took 2 benadryls and put on some cream. That lasted about 1hr. Woke up every 2hrs or so in the middle of the night. These bites are EVERYWHERE. Night 2 - 2 Benadryls, bleach wipe, cool shower. Woke up once or twice in the middle of the night. Night 3 - 2 Benadryls, bleach wipe down, 4 beers - Perfect nights sleep.
tho1mas Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Where did you wipe the beer & what brand did you use?
