Jerry it depends on the down stream I thought there might be a lot of pressure on the Missouri. they released to much water here one time when the Missouri was up and cause flooding in St Charles.

Old Plug - look at Wrenches photo. LOZ has no room for storage. Truman, Stockton, and Pomme are all rising. They are true flood control reservoirs. LOZ was never desinged for flood control. It is owned by Ameren. Union Electric (Ameren today), built the lake in the 30's for power generation only. It was designed to pass whatever inflow that flows into the lake.

I know that Jerry i have lived here for over 20 yrs but i can remember during the flood of 93 (if I recall the year right) the water crested and shot back up at St Charles and they blamed a release from here. At that time i had this house here and the water was over my ramp way and several of my neighbors as well. There was some other flooding that happened since then and the release from LOZ was blamed for but it was on the Osage that time. I just wondered if we were in that kind of situation again

Yeah, before Truman and others LOZ was quick to open the flood gates, but it has stood the test of time. Watching the rader it didn't seem that there was that much rain in the watershed outside of the Niangua, but then what do I know.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

The management is different also Wayne. The merger that created Armens included Central Illinois Power Company. I have had experience with them on Lk Coffeen in Ill. They owned that lake and it was as large as clearwater in Mo. They did not like people using the lake. I remember one time they went so far as to have it patrolled and were arresting people for fishing etc. Illinois tried to get it opened and they refused to even discuss it with them. It is open now however I believe. They have a different attitude than Union Electric had. That is what causes some if the heated problems around LOZ

I thought the COE still dictated when and how much the flood gates were open? I know Ameren owns the Dam but I thought COE still had control over the flood gate operation...

I thought the same thing. That was why I wondered why they would release as much as they did.

I know the COE is suppose to control everything. But that does not tell me they have enough sense to do it properly. I have seen times when truman was full of water and we were real low down here and they did not do it. A lot of people around the lake do not like the way the corp manages the water flow between the two lakes. I am one of them.

I don't think the COE is in charge of generation release at all. Floodgate operation MAYBE. I have never seen a COE truck/car at the Bagnell parking lot or anywhere around the structure, so if the corp is a presence around Bagnell they hide pretty well.

I don't recall anyone from the COE making any statements during the shoreline management discussions.
