Lake Oz Or Tablerock

Retired, living in CO but we want to get a second home either on Lake Oz or Tablerock.

Mostly we'll be there during the cooler months-Oct/Nov thru April.

I'm thinking Tablerock will fish better thru the winter months but don't really know that. Looks like their

lows during the winter months are 5 degrees warmer.

Been to Lake Oz many times over the years and really love the lake so this is a hard decision.

I have lived on LOZ for over 20 years. 20 yrs. it is about the worst place I can think off for boat traffic and disputation. And itis gifting worse. Wr are cansidering moving ourselves to be closer to our families. TABLE ROCK FOR SURE.

Like I said-been to Oz many times over the years and never really minded the boat traffic-especially if I was there after Sept

or before Memorial day. But I know what you mean-out on the main lake channel it can get interesting.

Depends on:

1. how close you want to live to the water. LOZ - dead lakefront. Table Rock - COE owned setback to elevation 929, minimal vegetation management (permit require to remove any trees live or dead etc.) to elevation 936

2. dock slips are limited and pretty valuable on Table Rock if you feel the need to keep a boat on the water

3. LOZ is more fertile and will produce more fish per acre and is easier (debatable I know) to fish than TR.

4. TR is far and away prettier and has less pressure in every way - though it certainly has enough

5. How bad do you hate yahoos from KC and STL that want to get drunk and show off? LOZ is worse for that than TR

Wellnow you got a partial point there Mr Wrench. But considering that you will be reaching a milestone in a few days of being 1/2 century old you will be dealing with these things before long.

Speaking as a non-retired person the one thing I want when i retire is to be ale to fish and enjoy peace and quiet when I can. Tablerock would be my choice and OZ wouldnt even be in the lakes I would think about. I dislike putting up with drunks and loud behavior on when i all i want is to enjoy myself and no amount of frustration needs to be in retirement dealt with it all your working life why put up with it in retirement.

There are areas of LOZ that are not that bad even in the summer weekends. Through the week is great, and if you are down there all the time, then why go out on the weekends, save your boating time during the week if you think its that bad. I have a place on the lake in Camdenton, and all I have is a basstracker style 17.5' boat, and I have no problems what so ever. I get up early on the weekends, fish until 9 or 10 at the latest, then usually don't go back out until the evening. If I don't feel like going out on the lake, I can fish right off the dock. Now before Memorial day and after Labor day, you can usually stay out all day if you want to. And during the week, it's like you have your own private lake. I would definitely consider LOZ, especially if you want to be on the water. It makes is so convenient. Plus, there are plenty of stores real close and St. Louis or Kansas City are within 2.5 hrs away.

As far as fishing goes, LOZ has been on fire during the fall/winter/early spring months. Crappie, Bass, White Bass and if you know where to target them, Walleye fishing has been picking up.

This has been one of the best years for Crappie size. They have a 9" limit, and we've been blowing that away. I mainly fish for crappie. We catch a lot of bass while crappie fishing, and friends of mine that does Bass fish, have been doing quite well.

To me LOZ fishes better in the winter months. Maybe it just fits my style of fishing better but always seem to catch more and better fish on LOZ in the winter. I'm not going to be on that water in the summer though.

But if you want beauty, Table Rock is the place to be. Well at least out of those two options.
